There are many ways to save money and still eat healthy food when dining out. One way is to avoid prime-time dinner hours and take advantage of lunch specials or “early bird” specials that are available, usually between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Another way to save money is to not order mixed drinks or wine by the glass, which can cost over $5 per serving. An excellent and very healthy free drink is water, and you can always ask for some slices of fresh lemon to squeeze into it to make your own lemonade.
Check your local newspaper for restaurant coupons and advertised discounts. Newspapers’ websites sometimes offer deals that are not advertised in the print version, and oftentimes restaurants that have websites also offer special discounts on the Internet. Look for brand-new restaurants because they often have special deals to attract customers. City tourist bureaus offer restaurant discount coupons to attract tourists, but local residents can use them too. “Buy one, get one free” coupons can reduce the cost of dinner for two by up to 50%. All-you-can-eat buffets are another good idea, and some even include beverages and desserts at no extra cost.
Families can save money by eating at restaurants that feature children’s menus. There are many family-style restaurants offering “Kids eat free” specials on certain days and even occasional “Family Day” discounts. Many restaurants also offer special discounts for senior citizens. When it comes to saving money on dining out, a little research can pay big dividends. |
