As with all forms of writing, movie scripts get edited and rewritten many times before they are used in production. The dialogue that you hear the actors say on screen may be a far cry from the writer's original version. Here are some examples of lines and songs from some famous movies that read the way that their writers intended, before the censors or the editors got involved:
Singing In The Rain
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
I'll just lie around
Smoking pot at my place
King Kong
It wasn't the planes. 'Twas beauty that killed the beast, though that thirteen hundred foot drop sure didn't help.
Taxi Driver
Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me? Sorry, but I tend to repeat myself. Tend to repeat myself.
The Wizard Of Oz
We're off to see The Wizard
The wonderful Wizard of Oz
We're off to see The Wizard
Because...because...
Say, why the hell are we going anyway?
Gone With The Wind
Frankly, My Dear, I don't give a damn. Well, all right. Maybe I'm just a teensy weensy bit interested.
Casablanca
Louie, this may be the start of a beautiful frienship. All the same, kiss me again and I'll punch your lights out.
On the other hand, maybe the revised versions of these lines are better after all.
George
