As a follow up to my question about whether anyone still reads books, here is a brazen plug for one of my own detective novels:

The Dead Don't Cry by George J. Condon

The Dead Don't Cry is a detective story in the "hard boiled" tradition of Daschell Hammatt, Raymond Chandler and Ross Macdonald. During a bleak Toronto winter, private eye Matt Ryan takes on what seems to be a routine case. Wealthy Rebecca Raintree wants Ryan to find her missing son David who has a history of alcoholism and drug abuse. Matt is inclined to pass up the job, but he needs money and Mrs. Raintree will pay him double his usual fee. That should have been his first clue that something was wrong.

Matt finds himself caught up in more than he expected when two of the people he questions about David are found brutally murdered, with the word "hangman" written in their blood. He meets sexy but spoiled Laura, who tries to lure him away from his affair with his secretary Samantha. Russian gangster Yuri Kursov demands that Matt find an incriminating file for him or else. On top of all that, somebody is trying to kill him. All Matt knows is that everything is connected somehow with some horrifying event that happened at an exclusive boys' school, more than twenty years earlier. Somehow, Matt has to unravel the mystery if he wants to stay alive.

Here is what one reader had to say about The Dead Don't Cry:

"I'm one of George J. Condon’s biggest fans. I've read all of his short stories, so, when I found out he was writing suspense novels, I was eager to read his books.

The Dead Don’t Cry was a easy read. Because I live in Toronto, I got caught up in the familiarity of the city locations described in the novel. The interaction between Mrs. Raintree, her son and her companion was compelling.

Get ready for a very intriguing ride. My only regret is that romance between Matt and Sam did not develop further. I highly recommend this book.
