One of the most popular film genres is the gangster flick. Plots in these films usually follow a predictable arc. An ambitious young hoodlum claws his way to power in the underworld by betraying and killing just about everyone he knows, then he meets his own demise in a hail of bullets at the end. Many people are disturbed by the graphic violence in gangster movies and they want to see the gore toned down a lot.
Here are some examples of dialogue from cleaned up gangster films that won't upset the squeamish:
"Drop your gun, Copper, or I'll shoot the girl. Well, maybe I won't go that far, but I'll really muss up her hair."
"We found out that Louie was snitching to the cops, so we took the rat for a nice long ride in the country. Then we made him walk back. That'll teach him."
"Yesterday, I really raked somebody over the coals. I tell you, Lefty, I was so embarrassed when I found out that's just a figure of speech. Who knew?"
"This is a stick up. Fill this bag with money and be quick about it. I've got a paint ball gun and I'm not afraid to use it."
"Rocco, I warned you that I run this prison with an iron fist. You broke the rules anyway. Now, you're going to find out just how tough things can get around here. Hand over your library card."
Somehow, it's just not the same. What do you think?
