The definition of happiness - walking into a room and finding the woman you love, sitting up in bed laughing away, and your baby son lying on her chest, with a handful of her hair in his hand tugging away at it and kicking his legs in response to her laughs.
It was just what I needed. What a start to the day.
He is coming on in absolute leaps and bounds and the doctors are astounded. Really the only issue now is that he's a little small. They are still keeping a close eye on him, and there are still a load of tests to be done, but at this rate he could be home when Cheb comes home. Its possible that could be a week or so yet, because they're not too happy with how her stitches are healing. We'll see anyway.
So he stayed right where he was while Cheb and I chatted away, quite content. And who could blame the little guy? Clearly, he is like his old man - a boobs man, or he will be when he's older! Haha!
Everyone is marvelling at just how much he looks like me. Even one of the nurses said to me 'there's no prizes for guessing who's daddy you are!'
I can see it too now. He's got my eyes, my nose and my mouth too, but as I said to Cheb...there's still time, poor little mite. Bless, I'm kidding. But he will change all the time, they do, dont they? Its almost six days since he was born and he's changed so much already.
Cheb has a cuddly rabbit that her dad brought her when she was a baby, and she has hung onto it all her life - it gained extra significance when he passed. I thought it was lovely that she still has it and I decided to go and buy Stanley a toy that was just from daddy. I got him a little blue rabbit and it sleeps beside him. I think they will be lifelong friends.
After days of everyone telling Cheb she should be resting, and her telling everyone she was fine, it suddenly hit her this afternoon. One minute we were sitting together watching a re-run of Britain's Got Talent, and the next she's out for the count. Suddenly she is exhausted. Its weird because when one of them falls asleep, so does the other. Its like they are perfectly in tune with each other. Is that how mums and babies are? I mean...Stan was quite lively one minute, but the moment Cheb started to nod off...so did he.
I stayed anyway, and just watched TV, and watched them both sleep.
So...day six of fatherhood approaches. The feeling of utter joy and happiness has not waned, I am still, quite literally flying on my love for these two wonders of my life - my beautiful lady and my gorgoeus son. It literally is like flying without wings.
Bliss.....

I so enjoy these "happy" update posts. Babies change and grow so very quickly ... stay in the moment and enjoy each and every second of these precious moments of childhood. It sounds like you are already doing just that. Peace, Hugs & Love To All Of You.

Oh David, you've brought a tear to my eye... this is such a special special time in all your lives ... enjoy it and slow it down if you can.

Ok..now THIS is your best post so far :) Each of your posts make me smile more than the previous :) He is really a little angel, isnt he? Give him a kiss from me :) I love babies!! He'd be looking soooo adorable sleeping with his rabbit! God, you have me all mushy mushy now :)
I think its really adorable that he falls asleep as soon as she does :) And no, i dont think that always happens..atleast thats what my mom says. She kept saying the minute she'd manage to put me to sleep and then manage to doze off herself, i'd be up again :D
Or maybe, i was a little devil, and stan is an angel :)

KP - Yeah, I aim to take it all in and every second has come to be so special that time itself seems to have slowed for me...every second with them means so much. Does that make sense? Haha x I have taken a ton of pictures....just need to get round to uploading them! xx David xx

angelwings - haha, I'm glad you're enjoying my posts so much! He is, an absolute angel. Funnily enough, my mum said the same about me - she would get me settled, nod off herself and then I'd start up crying! Maybe he's saving it up until we get him home, then he will unleash it all and show us what he's made of.
The song...one of Cheb's favourite and I used to poke fun, but this week suddenly it doesnt seem so silly...
I like the last line 'you're the place my life begins, and you'll be where it ends...' sums it up really.
