Why do you not go to church?
What is it about church that turns you off? What one thing would need to change in order foryou to attend?

Dear garethmorgan, First it's because people who attend church
are so judgemental. Then there are a lot of the churches that
won't accept me because I smoke. But the biggest reason is
because they are preaching the bible and I'm not a beliver in the
bible. I wholey belive in God and Jesus, but I have a
relationship with the Lord that doesn't need a church to act
upon. While I do rejoice in the faith of my fellow christians,
structured religion is a big downer to me. It has been the
cause of too many wars and too much ignorance for what Jesus was
really trying to teach his fellow man.

Dear garethmorgan, Had to repost for the second half of your
question. I would design all the church prayers to focus on how
we should help eachother today, and for tomorrow. I know how
catholics screw their fellow man all week long and then they
think they can just confess on saturday and be forgiven. Many
other Christians live the same way, so I would have my church
teach how to live the word not just recite it. Also the leaders
of my church would have to live a much more modest life and not
built on the income of the church itself.

I use to go to church, but couldn't stand the judgemental,
hypocritical people that went there and still do. I don't go
because I don't believe the preachers practice what they
preach...you see too many asking for money. I'm native american,
therefore, I believe what my ancestors and elders have taught
me....which as I can see, is better than what I could get going
to church.

used to go when I lived in Iowa. Found most of th epeople closed
minded and only looked at me when in church but then I divorced
and was informed that I was not wanted in their church anymore. I
never really did find church useful even as a kid.

I think that just like almost any organization people put
together, there are going to be good and bad folks involved. I
just read a really great book about Christian Spirituality
called, "Searching For God Knows What" by Don Miller -
it was funny and great and addressed some of the issues that the
author finds with religion. I like to attend church where people
are friendly, other focused - or at least try to be - and faith
in God is not presented as a ticket to everything you ever wanted
in this world (materialistic junk). I also like it if they have
a really great gospel choir that tears the place down. I do not
like to hear a lot of war rheteric or us vs. them stuff or anyone
thundering on about culture wars. I like it when a teacher
presents more info. re: the weight of the meaning of Hebrew words
in scripture -

1.Church is like a cult to me. 2.A lot of the people who attend
are hypocrits... I can say this because family members of mine
are like that. 3.I have a hard time believing in God because how
does anyone know? 4.It seems like a made up fairy tale to make
people behave because they don't want to go to hell. 5.I think
that it gives people something to look forward to when they
die...even though I don't believe there is a heaven...that's also
made up. (These are MY opinions.) I don't have a problem with
people who go to church and believe... everyone is entitled to
practice what they want. && 6. I would go if someone
had proof there is a God and if someone could sit and tell me
about him AFTER meeting him...which will never happen.

Religions don't teach truth, there are hypocrites, deceivers,
judgemental people, money grubbers everywhere!! Not just in
religion, those who condemn religion for those things might as
well condemn human society as a whole! Lets get real, as in
everything people make choices in religion and out, religion has
failed men because it has strayed from truth, it has strayed
since the death of the last apostle, the "church"
bowed, bribed, was bribed by generations of kings, queens,
establishments, into a monster that God himself rejects,
"babylon the great" all of religion falls into this
title if not based strictly on what Jesus taught, that pretty
much leaves them all out 99.9%.what would jesus view be on any
war that pits man against man, the churches all line up to bless
our soldiers!! Go kill, go destroy,in Gods name just pull the
trigger, we are going to show them all how to live if it kills
them!! Jesus would be disgusted, rather is disgusted, he showed
us all how to live, he died to

show us, and men don't see, or rather it is to inconvienent to
see they want their "ears tickled" its easier to pay
for forgiveness than to actually repent and turn around, to
accept something that the bible says is wrong by saying oh we are
more enlightened now, we know better than they did, or God did,
or for those who don't want to be accountable to anyone, just say
there is no God and do what feels good. truth never changes,
truth endures, peoples ideas die and change and then come around
again as though they are new and die again, the truth is still
the truth, Gods will has never changed, believe what you will,
but it changes nothing, Gods will will be accomplished, and his
name sanctified and his rule vindicated.
