 Soliloquy
In class we read through Billy's soliloquy from Carousel in which he revealed his true feelings about himself, his unborn child and his family's future.

For this week's blog, I would like you to share with us your soliloquy in the form of song lyrics that you or someone else wrote.  An excerpt is fine if your song is particularly long.  Be sure to tell us why you picked this song and why it is particularly moving or significant to you.  Also, feel free to respond to other student entries...perhaps someone else also picks your song!

the trouble with schools is
they always try to teach the wrong
lesson
believe me, i've been kicked out
of enough of them to know
they want you to become less callow
less shallow
but i say: "why invite stress in?"
stop studying strife
and learn to life "the unexamined life"

Dancing through life
skimming the surface
gliding where turf is smooth
life's more painless
for the brainless
why think too hard?
when it's so soothing
dancing through life
no need to tough it
when you can sluff it off as i do
nothing matters
but knowing nothing matters
it's just life
so keep dancing through...

I love these lyrics from Wicked's song "Dancing Through Life." I think we have all felt this way at some point, like at the end of the year when you know summer is around the corner. Sometimes when I'm stressing too much about school work, I remember these lyrics. It puts me in a more light-hearted mood. I know that you're supposed to work hard and be on top of things, but sometimes it's nice to just think, "what the heck. I'm not gonna be fifteen forever. I'm not gonna be alive forever. Might enjoy this life while I'm living it." Those are the feelings this song inspires in me. I picked this song because although the lyrcis aren't particularly deep or insightful, they are so amazing. They say, "go ahead! live life to its fullest!" I love this song because of that.

Sunshine go away today,
I don't feel much like dancin'
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
Don't know what he's askin'
He tells me I'd better get in line
Can't hear what he's sayin'
When I grow up, I'm gonna make it mine
These ain't dues I been payin'
*How much does it cost? I'll buy it.
The time is all we've lost. I'll try it.
He can't even run his own life,
I'll be damned if he'll run mine
Sunshine*
Sunshine go away today,
I don't feel much like dancin'
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
Don't know what he's askin'
Working starts to make me wonder where
fruits of what I do are going
He says in love and war all is fair
He's got cards he ain't showin'
*How much does it cost? I'll buy it.
The time is all we've lost. I'll try it.
He can't even run his own life,
I'll be damned if he'll run mine
Sunshine*
Sunshine come on back another day
I promise you I'll be singin'
This old world she's gonna turn around
brand new bells'll be ringin'

The song I chose as representative of myself is called Sunshine by the musican Johnathan Edwards. This song all about sticking it to the man, which is something we can all relate to. I also can identify with this song in the silly way I personally interpret it. What I mean is, for example, the song goes "I don't feel much like dancing" and by the end it changes to "I promise you I'll be singing." This is like me since I don't like to dance but I love to sing.
The part of the song that goes "Working starts to make me wonder where fruits of what I do are going" is how I feel about my school work sometimes. You work so hard in school just to get a number on a piece of paper. Sure, good grades look good on a college transcript, but at what cost? A lot of time spent, a lot of stress felt. It starts to take a toll on your spirits. Once you're in college there's just going to be more work, which in turn leads you to real work at a job. If work is just in preparation for more work, where do the real fruits of our labor go? Call me crazy, but I don't think work is fruit.
Also, I relate to the chorus(*) since time is dear to me. I have a very busy daily schedule so time is much more precious to me than money. Money's not a problem with me, I'm just a kid. Being a kid, of course I feel like the man is keeping me down. There's so much of life you can't experience before adulthood. Though don't fret; I'll grow up someday. This old world she's gonna turn around, brand new bells'll be ringin'.

okay. first off, this was definitely one of if not the most difficult blog assignment yet. i found it really hard to find a song that would truly sum up my life. i seriously had about 5 different songs in minde, all for different reasons. at last i picked High Life Scenery by The Rocket Summer.
The lyrics are as follows:
you've got everybody talking
you've got everybody going
and you've got everybody acting crazy
I'm not gonna say you don't
you got everybody listening
and you got everbody putting on a show
you got everybody acting crazy
I'm not gonna say you don't
and you got it all wrong

CHORUS
your so scene listening
you can feel that you won't sing anything
you know you mean to take it
to take this seriously
cause seriously this high life scenery
it makes me crazy

hey(hey)what'do you say?
I need some help, help me out
Boys(boys)I'm not feeling so good
Girls(girls)I got the feel that your feeling something
that you say is more than you
everybody in here's got it going on
I can't compete with that
I'll take off all of my clothes to the thrift store
and take it all take it all back

your so scene listening
you can feel that you won't sing anything
you know you mean to take it
to take this seriously
cause seriously this high life scenery
it's making me

hey(hey)look what'do you say?
take a look take a look
your looking at me
singing,thinking i'm about to scream(scream, scream)

your so scene listening
you can feel that you won't sing anything
you know you mean to take it
to take this seriously
cause seriously this high life scenery
it makes me crazy

your so scene listening
you can feel that you won't sing anything
you know you mean to take it
to take this seriously
cause seriously this high life scenery
it makes me crazy

ok i don't know how much space this is going to take up, but i'm sorry if its really long. basically i chose this song because i really think it sums up the midset of teenagers today. i feel that everyone (perhaps, myself included in this) tries so hard to put on this front that they are so unique or misunderstood. while i am a an advocate for individuality, i think it has become so standard for teenagers to be different that it is this that makes them all the same. somewhat conversely, i think that we are pressured to act, think, or interact a certain way (what with the advent of myspace) that it becomes so difficult to truly find yourself. what i take from this song is that one should always be whomever they wish to be. you should act crazy or unconcerned or whatever you please because i feel that the most important parts of life is being you for you, not for what others will perceive of you.

i realize that this has gone on quite extensively and i should just stop typing. thatnks to those who actually read this whole thing and i hope it makes sense to you, because i'm not enturely sure if it makes complete sense to me.

First off, I love the song that you picked Mary. It makes me really happy every time I listen to it.
Tatiana, I’ve never heard the song you picked, but it seems to be really awesome.
Deirdre, I fully read your entire entry and completely understood it. =)

I agree with Deirdre that this was one of the hardest blogs yet. After much debating, I chose this song over my other choice, which was Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfield.

The song I picked is called “Get Up” and it is by Super Chic[k]

(Get Up by Super Chic[k]

I'm not afraid to fall
It means i climbed up high
To fall is not to fail
You fail when you don't try
Not afraid to fall
I might just learn to fly and
I will spread these wings of mine

*Chorus:
If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again
We'll just jump and see, even if it's the 20th time
We'll just jump and see if we can fly

I'm not afraid to fall
And hear i told you so
Don't want to rock the boat
But i just had to know
Just a greener side
Or can i touch the sky
But either way i will have tried

*If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again
We'll just jump and see, even if it's the 30th time
We'll just jump and see if we can fly

I'm not afraid to fall
I've fallen many times
They laughed when i fell down
But i have dared to climb
I'm not afraid to fall
I know i'll fall again
But i can win this in the end

*If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again
We'll just jump and see, even if it's the 40th time
We'll just jump and see if we can fly

If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If i get up i might fall back down again
So let's get up come on
If i get up i might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again)

The first time I heard this song was in the movie Ice Princess. I fell in love with the soundtrack, and this song quickly became one of my favorites.

This song is all about never giving up. It’s about always giving it your best shot, even when it seems impossible or when you’ve failed before. (I’m one of those people who is a borderline eternal optimist.)
This song is great to listen to when you feel like nothing is going right. It’s a great song to listen to when you’re depressed and when you think you can never succeed.
One of the reasons I love this song is because it cheers me up. It always gets me in a better mood.
A few years ago, I was asked to swim a long distance race for my swim team. I thought it was impossible, but I was convinced into doing it by my coach. Anyone want to take a wild guess what I sang to myself as I practiced swimming? (If you guessed this song, you’re right. : D) Whenever I felt tired and wanted to quit, I would remember this song and push myself to keep going. I didn’t place that year, but I finished all 20 laps with a smile on my face.

P.S. Sorry this post was so long. This is a rather long song, so the lyrics made this an even longer entry.

Tat, i've never heard that song before, but i know i hear you talking about how amazing Wicked is like ALL the timee. and Deej, i loveeeee the Rocket Summer. (thanks to laurenn). and Jen, Im so mad i didnt think of that song first. i loveee that songg hahaa.
When i asked my sister what the song that describes my life would be, she said "This is the song that never endss. it will go onn and onn my friendd...."
But, i decided that "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield would fit me a littlleeeee better.

I am unwritten,
Can't read my mind
I'm undefined
I'm just beginning
The pen's in my hand
Ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten, yeah

Oh, oh
I break tradition
Sometimes my tries
Are outside the lines, oh yeah yeah
We've been conditioned
To not make mistakes
But I can't live that way oh, oh

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

(Gospel)
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live you life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten

sorry its so long.
I think this song hits the nail right on the head for me. Im the type of person who never has a plan, im very spontaneous. I dont listen to what other people tell me to do with my life and i dont follow the crowd. "i break tradition..."
My favoriteee part of this song is when she says "We've been conditioned To not make mistakes But I can't live that way." That sentence is my life. All i do is make mistakes and i hate when people think that there is a such thing as perfection. I really hate when adults cant seem to understand that we are all just children and were bound to make mistakes.
I think the lyrics are pretty self explanatory on how they relate to my life, and i feel like anyone who knows me at all will agree. or atleast i hope. =)
My mom always tells me that my future is up to me. I dont have to follow the crowd or live by an example that was set. she says "today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten." oh, shes suchhh a dorkk. =)

Well I agree with you all that this has been the hardest blog to complete, yet. When I first heard of this assignment, I had one song in mind, but before exposing it to the class, I decided to go through all 800 songs on my itunes, and make sure this was the song I wanted to use. Sure enough I narrowed those 800 down to 8 and I am now back to that 1 song that I had originally thought of. Here it is:
(whistling)
Here's a little song i wrote,
you might want to sing it note for note,
don't worry, be happy

in every life we have some trouble,
when you worry you make it double
don't worry, be happy

dont worry be happy now
dont worry be happy
dont worry be happy
dont worry be happy
dont worry be happy
aint got no place to lay your head,
somebody came and took your bed,
don't worry, be happy

the landlord say your rent is late,
he may have to litagate,
dont worry (small laugh) be happy,

look at me im happy,
don't worry, be happy

i give you my phone number,
when your worried, call me,
i make you happy

don't worry, be happy

aint got no cash, aint got no style,
aint got no gal to make you smile
but don't worry, be happy

cos when you worry, your face will frown,
and that will bring everybody down,
so don't worry, be happy

don't worry, be happy now...

don't worry, be happy
don't worry, be happy
don't worry, be happy
don't worry, be happy

now there this song i wrote
i hope you you learned it note for note
like good little children

dont worry be happy

listen to what i say
in your life expect some trouble
when you worry you make it double
dont worry be happy
be happy now

dont worry, be happy
dont worry, be happy
dont worry, be happy
dont worry, be happy
dont worry
dont worry be happy
don't worry, don't worry, don't do it,
be happy, put a smile on your face,
don't bring everybody down like this

don't worry, it will soon pass whatever it is,
don't worry, be happy,
i'm not worried
I think that this song most closely represents my life, because I do not like to be sad, and I agree with Bob Marley that it does not get you anywhere! If you smile and try to be happy, you will accomplish a lot more that what you will obtain while frowning. It is a hard idea to live by, but I apply to my life every single day, and I think the world would be a better place if everyone applied this to their life. So everyone, don't worry, be happy!

Ok, I totally agree with everyone so far who has said that this is the hardest blog assignment yet. It was so hard to pick just one song that describes my life because there are many different aspects of my life to describe. After a lot of thought I chose the song "Imperfection" by Saving Jane.

My hair's a wreck
Mascara runs
My feet get dirty and my skin burns in the sun
My lips, they bleed
But I still sing my songs
Takes me a minute to admit it when I'm wrong

Pretty is as pretty does, but pretty's not my thing...

This is what you get
This is who I am
Take me now or leave me
Any way you can
Sometimes I trip and fall
But I know where I stand
If you're thinking about changing my direction,
Don't mess with imperfection

My back is weak
But my will is true
Got good intentions but I never follow through
And I say too much
I don't know when to leave
In case you're looking, that's my heart there on my sleeve

Ego trips and stupid slipups, I'm a mess but...

This is what you get
This is who I am
Take me now or leave me
Any way you can
Sometimes I trip and fall
But I know where I stand
If you're thinking about changing my direction,
Don't mess with imperfection

Scratched and bruised, a little used, but baby I work fine
You might call me damaged goods, but I'm one of a kind

My hair's a wreck
No, I'm not perfect but I'm not the only one...

This is what you get
This is who I am
Take me now or leave me
Any way you can
Sometimes I trip and fall
But I know where I stand
If you're thinking about changing my direction,
Don't mess with imperfection

I think this song represents my life because of the message it sends. This song is saying that no one is perfect and our imperfections are what make us who we are; they are what make us unique. This song basically states: "here are all my imperfections, you can either accept them or move on. I'm not going to change who I am or pretend to be perfect for anyone." That is basically my point of view on life. I realize that I am far from perfect but I know my imperfections make me the person that I am and I won't change for anyone.
I like to listen to this song whenever I have a day where it feels like nothing i do is right. This song reminds me that it's ok to be imperfect.

And in response to Mary--I love that song!! And I totally agree with what you said about the fruit of our work. Work is definitely not fruit.

"Welcome To My Life"
~Simple Plan

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you
Do you ever wanna run away?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more?
Before your life is over
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

No one ever lied straight to your face
And no one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
You never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like (what it's like)

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life

this song was my life during my second year of 5th grade. i had gone t 5th grade in the city on 79th and then i switch schools and i missed the cut of and they wouldnt let me go to the middle school because i would have been too young (they were wrong, i was and still am older than 3/4 of the grade above me at that school) but they wanted me to repeat 5th grade, so i did. i had no friends going into that new school because all of my friends were either in NYC or in the grade above me. the summer inbetween the 5th grades my parents fought alot, they were threatening each other with divorce. most of the arguments that i would hear would be over which school was best for me since my sister stayed at the school i was leaving. i also hated the new school once i got there. the teacher hated me because i would stare out the window and ace every test. the kids there loved me and were always like MALLORY! COME OVER HERE! SIT WITH ME!! ect.. but alot of the time i went home "sick" or just left the school (my house was a block away).
i also first herd this song the summer before i went to the ew school. it was also fairly popular so i downloaded it and when ever i was mad at anyone id play the song at full volume and sing to it. its the only song i ever really sang to. im not really sure if it explains my life or not but it was deffinately comforting to yell and scream as load as my speakers would play the song. i still love this song to this day.

in responce to everyone else: i think this is one of the easier blog assignments. well for me at least.
and there are alot of good songs here too :D

Surprisingly, this blog assignment ended up being pretty easy for me. The song I choose is called "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I like the cover by the Deftones best. :)

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time...don’t live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you’ll find love,
And don’t forget son,
There is someone up above.

Chorus:
And be a simple kind of man.
And be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man.
Won’t you do this, if you can?

Forget your lust for rich man’s gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)

Oh don’t you worry...you’ll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this, if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)

And be a simple kind of man.
And be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man.

I know the song involves a guy, but my life can relate very well to these lyrics. I am an only child, and my parents would often sit me down and have these "life lessons" talks with me, like the mother and son in the song. I'm sure we've all had these kinds of talks with our parents. I would sit and listen and try to put what they told me into practice. I can hear some of the things my parents would tell me, like when the mother tells her son in the song to take life easy and slow, and don't let troubles get you down because they will pass in time. Love will come later one day, and God is always above watching over you.

Basically it tells you to try and lead a simple life and to follow your heart, which is what I try to do.

I completely agree that this was kind of difficult for me to pick just one song, because there are so many that I could resonate with in a certain way for each. But I finally decided on one, and it's a song by Fall Out Boy called "I've Got a Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)." I know the title is completely weird, but that's how all of their song titles are. The song is different from all the others on the cd because its mellow, and its one of my favorites from the cd.

Joke me something awful just like kisses on the necks of "best friends."
We're the kids who feel like dead ends.
And I want to be known for my hits, not just my misses.
I took a shot and didn't even come close.
At trust and love and hope.
And the poets are just kids who didn't make it
And never had it at all.

And the record won't stop skipping,
And the lies just won't stop slipping,
And besides my reputation's on the line.
We can fake it for the airwaves,
Force our smiles, baby, half dead
From comparing myself to everyone else around me.

Please put the doctor on the phone cause I'm not making any sense.
Blame everyone but me for this mess.
And my back has been breaking from this heavy heart.
We never seemed so far.
I'm hopelessly hopeful, you're just hopeless enough
But we never had it at all.

The song is pretty self-explanatory, but I chose it because I think it's an honest song about what you may think about yourself at times and about the others around you, and the relationships you have with people. The song is kind of slow and it sounds a little sad, but I really identify with this song in many different situations.

Tears are forming in your eyes,
a storm is warning in the skies,
the end of the world it seems,
you bend down and you fall on your knees,
well get back on your feet ,yeah,
don't look away, don't run away,
baby it's only life,
don't lose your faith, don't run away,
it's only life.
you were always playing hard,
never could let down your guard,
you can't win, if you never give in,
to that voice within, saying pick up your chin,
baby let go of it , yeah,
don't look away, don't run away ,
baby, it's only life.
don't lose your faith, don't run away,
baby it's only life.(repeat)
take your hesitance, and your self defense,
leave them behind, it's only life,
don't be so afraid of facing every day,
just take your time, it's only life,
i'll be your stepping stone, don't be so alone,
just hold on tight,it's only life,
oh..don't look away, don't run away,
baby it's only life,
don't lose your faith, don't run away, baby, it's only life (repeat),
it's only life, it's only life,
don't look away...

these lyrics are from "It's Only Life" by Kate Voegale, who is an amaaaazinggg singer that you all should look up =].
I chose this song because whenever I'm feeling down, I listen to this song and really take the lyrics to heart; it is only life and nothing is thaaat big of an issue at our age to just give up, which is very tempting sometimes. =]

Ok, I understood this assignment and found it completely hard and after a 4 day period of listening to my ipod I thought of what I was going to write. There isn’t just one song that describes my life, because just like everyone it has its good and bad moments. Times where I just feel like I’m tired of this whole world in general and others where I’m so happy I’m surrounded by everyone I do know. So instead of just one song I’ve decided to take stanzas from many songs and make it into one. The stanzas will go as follows: “Thunder” by Boys like Girls; “Never Dream Alone” by Ashlee Simpson; “Skin” by Alexz Johnson; “So I Thought” by Flyleaf; “Bittersweet World” by Ashlee Simpson;

Today is a winding road that's taking me to places that I didn't want to go. Whoa.
Today in the blink of an eye I'm holding on to something and I do not know why I tried

We’re connected, when I hold my breath
You're the only one who knows how to wake me
And underneath the stars
Fall asleep with your hand on my heart
You won’t let it skip a beat

I drift away to a place
Another kind of life
Take away the pain
I create my paradise
Everything I've held has hit the wall
What used to be yours, isn't yours at all

To everlasting memories
Show soul
Kiss the stars with me
And dread the wait for
Stupid calls returning to us to life
We say to those who are in love
It can't be true 'cause we're too young
I know that's true because so long I was so in love with you

It’s the be all end all
And right before we fade away
Call a spade a spade
And you should know, you should know it’s a
Bittersweet world
Why can’t we all just get along?
In this bittersweet world
Everybody reaping what they sow
In this bittersweet world
With closets full of skeletons
I’m a bittersweet girl
Demons out to get me as I stand alone.

I wanted to show everyone what's going on in my life at the moment. I know it isn't exactly what was asked but this is my life, as I know it.

This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud

[Chorus:]
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life

This is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina who never backed down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks

[Chorus:]
It's my life
And it's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life

Better stand tall when they're calling you out
Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down

[Chorus:]
It's my life
And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive

[Chorus:]
It's my life
And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life!

I chose the song its my life by Bon Jovi because i feel like this describes my life because i personally try and live day by day with no regrets and try to get as much as i can out of my life before its gone. I think this song represents it in a good way because bon jovi is expressing how he wants to become someone one day instead of just be someone small and let his life pass him by. Especially since no one is gunna live forever i think we should take advantage of what we have and try out everything whether in the end we like it or not. This song describes my views on life.

For me this was a difficult blog assignment but i decided on a song called never know by Jack Johnson, this song just talks about how we really are just human and never know what is going on and we dont really know where life is taking us and that in the end all we have is questions with life and that all in all we are just like everyone else this song is a really good reality hit when i am feeling down and it really helps me reevaluate were i stand and where i want my life to lead

I hear this old story before
Where the people keep killing for the metaphors
Don't leave much up to the imagination,
So I, wanna give this imagery back
But I know it just ain't so easy like that
So, I turn the page and read the story again
And again and again
It sure seems the same, with a diff. name
We're breaking and rebuilding
And we're growing
Always guessing

Never knowing
Shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments
We're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human
Amusing but confusing
Were trying but where is this all leading
Never Know

It all happened so much faster
Than you could say disaster
Wanna take a time lapse
And look at it backwards
From the last one
And maybe thats just the answer
That we're after
But after all
We're just a bubble in a boiling pot
Just one breath in a chain of thought
The moments just combusting
Feel certain but we'll never never know
Just seems the same
Give it a diff. name
We're beggin and we're needing
And we're trying and we're breathing

Never knowing
Shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments
We're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human
Amusing but confusing
Helping, we're building
And we're growing
Never Know

Knock knock on the door to door
Tell ya that the metaphor is better than yours
And you can either sink or swim
Things are looking pretty grim
If you don't believe in what this one feeding
Its got no feeling
So I read it again
And again and again
Just seems the same
Too many different names
Our hearts are strong our heads are weak
We'll always be competing never knowing

Never knowing
Shocking but we're nothing
We're just moments
We're Clever but we're clueless
We're just human
Amusing but confusing
But the truth is
All we got is questions
We'll Never Know
Never Know
Never Know

okay so at first when I heard about this assignment I thought that it was going to be extremely difficult, especially for me since I listen to mostly alternative music, and let's face it, not all alternative music is happy lovey dovey lol. To my surprise, however, I came across many songs on my ipod that I feel describe not just my life, but almost every teenager our age. Although I came across some good ones, such as "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette, "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles (also in the PARENT TRAP aka me and christianass FAVORITE MOVIEE aha sorry that was random.. you should all go watch that movie, right now.. =), "Soak up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow, "Life is a Highway" by the Rascal Flatts (yeah i figured i'd let either britny or amanda have the option of using the rascal flatts since they're more obesessed with them than I am aha) and "What a Wonderful World" by Joey Ramone, (I know I have a lot loll sorry guys but this was surprisingly easier than I thought aha), I finally picked a song that I believe we can all relate to. This song is from one of my absolute favorite Broadway musicals:

PRUDY
Don't contradict me!

VELMA
Don't disobey me!

EDNA
Don't even think about going to
that audition.

TRACY, PENNY & AMBER
Please!

MOMS
No!

3 GIRLS
Mother!!!!

MOMS
Stop!

PENNY
Stop telling me what to do

MOMS
Don't!

AMBER
Don't treat me like a child of two

MOMS
No!

TRACY
I know that you want what's best

MOMS
Please!

TRACY
But mother, please,

GIRLS
Give it a rest!!!

ALL
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Mama. I'm a big girl now!

TRACY
Once upon a time when i was just a kid
You never let me do iust what the older kids did
But lose that laundry list of what you won't allow

GIRLS
'Cause mama, i'm a big girl now

AMBER
Once upon a time i used to play with toys
But now i'd rather play around with teenage boys
So, if i get a hickey, please don't have a cow

GIRLS
'Cause mama, i'm a big girl now

PENNY
Ma, i gotta tell you that without a doubt
I get my best dancing lessons from you
You're the one who taught me how to "twist and shout"
Because you shout non-stop
And you're so twisted too!
Wo -oh -oh -oh -oh

TRACY
Once i used to fidget
'Cause i just sat home

AMBER
But now i'm just like Gidget
And i gotta get to rome!

PENNY
So say, arrivederci!

TRACY
Toodle-loo!

AMBER
And ciao!

GIRLS
'Cause mama, i'm a big girl now

ALL
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Stop! Don't! No! Please!

GIRLS
Mama, i'm a big girl now
(hey mama, say mama)

TRACY
Once upon a time i was a shy young thing
Could barely walk and talk so much as dance and sing
But let me hit that stage, i wanna take my bow

GIRLS
'Cause mama, i'm a big girl now

AMBER
Wo - oh - oh - oh - oh
Once upon a time i used to dress up 'ken'
But now that i'm a woman, i like bigger men
And i don't need a barbie doll to show me how

GIRLS
'Cause mama, i'm a big girl now

GIRLS
Ma, you always taught me
What was right from wrong
And now i iust wanna give it a try
Mama, i've been in the nest for far too long
So please give a push and mama watch me fly

AMBER
Watch me fly

GIRLS
Hey, mama, say mama

PENNY
Someday i will meet a man
You won't condemn

AMBER
And we will have some kids
And you can torture them

TRACY
But let me be a star
Before i take that vow

GIRLS
'Cause mama, i'm a big girl now

PENNY
Oh - Oh - Oh

GIRLS
Mama, i'm a big girl now

AMBER
Hey - Hey - Hey

GIRLS
Mama, i'm a big girl

AMBER
Ooh, such a big, big girl!

GIRLS
I'm a big girl now

ALL
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Stop! Don't! No! Please!
Stop! Don't! N01 please! WRONG: Stop! Don't! No! Please!

GIRLS
Mama, i'm a big girl now!!!

This song is pretty self explanatory and I feel like all of our mothers at one time or another treat us like we're 4 years old and believe me I'm sure my mom is one of the worst aha. Even though I know that deep deep down she only wants what's best for me,it still gets really annoying at timess lol.

I also found it really hilarious that it talks about wanting to go to rome and since we're going to italy in like 2 months it got me really happy =) lmaoo. so yeahh I hope you guyss like my songg.

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like there's no tomorrow
Don't care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like there's no tomorrow

Today just wasn't my day
Everyone's getting me so fed up
I've gotta find a way
I know what can make me feel better
Stepping out in my best
Looking hotter than ever
Wherever the party is
That's where I'll be in a second

I'm so ready to move my body
Forget about all my problems
When I hear that song
I'ma lose control
Hey, here I go

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like there's no tomorrow
Don't care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like there's no tomorrow

I'm loving the atmosphere
Feels like I'm floating in heaven
The music's all in my ear
Taking over me
My heart's racing
Feeling so Hollywood
How I got everybody staring
Their eyes are the cameras
And I'm loving all the attention

Get up, 'bout to move my body
Forget about all my problems
They're playing my song
I'ma lose control
Hey, here I go

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like there's no tomorrow
Don't care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like there's no tomorrow

Please DJ
Don't say it's the last call
Cause I know what it means
And I don't want you to play no slow song
I'm still building the nerve to talk to that guy
Just give me another song and make it right

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like there's no tomorrow
Don't care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like there's no tomorrow

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like there's no tomorrow
Don't care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like there's no tomorrow

So this song just describes how I feel when I get home from school. I just want to let all my problems go and dance and feel like I have no other worries. This song really relaxes me which is why is like it.

Beneath a veil of starry skies
As cold as winters darkness night
It's there you'll sleep, silently.
You're all alone...!
A single prayers soft melody.
Across the lonely, silent fields.
A little light begins to shine,
It shines on and on.

I watched you as you so peacefully dreamed.
You laughed like a child happy and carfree
It's so familiar and yet so far...
that's the future's promise for you and me.

One day on a green and shining morn.
One day we we'll finally make it through
Cause in this sky so dark with winter.
we still have to believe that it's true.
Fields of hope
Fields of hope
Fields of hope...!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=laiu7IFwDQs

The song that I have chosen is called Fields of Hope and it came from an old anime I watched. Yes, I know that sounds childish but Gundam Seed actually has very realistic themes (minus fighting with giant robots but that's not the point ._.'): the brutal reality of war...how people would even manipulate to achieve their own gains...and not caring about the victims caught within it.

Along with Nicole, I had the same song in mind. First because Bon Jovi always has songs that you can relate to or describe a situation in your life. This song its my life is more of an inspiring song to make people realize in their life they have every right to do what they want. I feel like every day I live my life to the fullest and try to forget about all the drama and realize there is so much more to it. I don’t let obstacles stop me from living the way I want. After all we only live one life and we better just live it to the fullest.

've been driving for an hour
Just talking to the rain
You say I've been driving you crazy
and its keeping you away
So just give me one good reason
Tell me why I should stay
'Cause I dont wanna waste another moment
in saying things we never meant to say

And I Take it just a little bit
I, hold my breath and count to ten
I, I've been waiting for a chance to let you in

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space in between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe

Well it's all so overrated
In not saying how you feel
So you end up watching chances fade
And wondering what's real

And I Give you just a little time
I, Wonder if you realize
I've been waiting till I see it in your eyes

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe,
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe
Breathe

So I whisper in the dark,
Hoping you hear me
Do you hear me?

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe,
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
Everything is alright if i just breathe... breathe

I've been driving for an hour
Just talking to the rain

The song i chose is Breathe by Michelle Branch. Its a great song to listen to when you get down on yourself, and it shows you that you can just relax and breathe, and life will fall into place. Its one of my favorite songs especially after a long day at school and im really stressed out. Because sometimes i find it that we as kids and teenagers have so much stress put upon us and that sometime we just need an outlet, so it helps to have a song like this.
I also very much enjoyed reading other peoples blogs, Phyllis and Nicole i love your songs. And Maggie totally stole my song, just kidding but i love it, its one of my favorites.

Alright, I expected to have a romanian song tucked deep in my mind which would naturally pop out when i started to write... but I was wrong. See, I would have one immediatly if the assignment
called for a poem..but it doesn't (the Romanian poets were all geniuses by the way.)
So I figured there must be something in English, when I hit upon it! Disney!! Its the songs everyone grows up listening to! - and I was no exception.
So my choice was from the Jungle Book (which has the best songs and voices). The other choice was from the Little Mermaid, Under the Sea - which reminds you to be happy where you are.
But anyway: The Bare Necessities
For me, I'm a pretty stressful person to be around at Home - and not just once or twice. If things aren't working, I'm a moody sort of gal. This songs just reminds people who are a bit over analytical over every single detail (like me) to wind down.

The Bare Necessities:
Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue ?

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

So just try and relax, yeah cool it
Fall apart in my backyard
'Cause let me tell you something little britches
If you act like that bee acts, uh uh
You're working too hard

And don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you

Found myself today
Oh I found myself and ran away
Something pulled me back
The voice of reason I forgot I had
All I know is you're not here to say
What you always used to say
But it's written in the sky tonight.

So I won't give up
No I won't break down
Sooner than it seems life turns around
And I will be strong
Even if it all goes wrong
When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe
Someone's watching over me.

Seen that ray of light
And it's shining on my destiny
Shining all the time
And I won't be afraid
To follow everywhere it's taking me
All I know is yesterday is gone
And right now I belong
Took this moment to my dreams.

So I won't give up
No I won't break down
Sooner than it seems life turns around
And I will be strong
Even if it all goes wrong
When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe
Someone's watching over me.

It doesn't matter what people say
And it doesn't matter how long it takes
Believe in yourself and you'll fly high
And it only matters how true you are
Be true to yourself and follow your heart.

So I won't give up
No I won't break down
Sooner than it seems life turns around
And I will be strong
Even if it all goes wrong
When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe
That I won't give up
No I won't break down
Sooner than it seems life turns around
And I will be strong
Even when it all goes wrong
When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe
That someone's watching over
Someone's watching over
Someone's watching over me.

The song that I chose for this drama assignment is called "Someone's Watching Over Me" by Hillary Duff from the movie Raise Your Voice. I agree with many people that this was one of the hardest blog assignments that we've had so far. I felt that it was really hard to pick one song out of the millions and billions that are out there and also because so many songs in the media today are about love and heartbreaks.
I chose this song because it talks more about believing in yourself and following your dreams. It is very inspiring and it tells you that as long as you try hard, you will succeed and that you shouldn't mind what others say about you. I also somehow find this song a bit spiritual where the someone is like God.
This song is significant because when I was at a really down point in my life, my best friend sent me this song while she was away in China. Every time that I listen to this song, it reminds me that God is always with me and so is my best friend.

The song that I chose as soliloquy is "Everyday" from the movie "High School Musical 2."

Once in a lifetime means theres no second chance, so I believe that you and me should grab it while we can. Make it last forever and never give it back. It's our turn and I'm lovin' where we're at, because this moment's really all we have.

Ev'ryday of our lives, wanna find you there, wanna hold on tight. Gonna run while while we're young and keep the faith. Ev'ryday from right now, gonna use our voices and scream out loud. Take my hand; together we will celebrate, celebrate. Oh, ev'ryday.

They say that you should follow and chase down what you dream, but if you get lost and lose yourself, what does it really mean? No matter where we're going, it starts from where we are. There's more to life when we listen to our hearts. And because of you, I've got the strength to start. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Ev'ryday of our lives, wanna find you there, wanna hold on tight. Gonna run while we're young and keep the faith. Ev'ryday from right now, gonna use our voices and scream out loud. Take my hand; together we will celebrate. Oh, ev'ryday.

We're taking it back, we're doing it here together. It's better like that, and stronger now than ever. We're not gonna lose, 'cause we get to choose. That's how it gonna be.

Ev'ryday of our lives, wanna find you there, wanna hold on tight. Gonna run while we're young , and keep the faith, keep the faith.

Ev'ryday of our lives wanna find you there, wanna hold on tight. Gonna run while we're young, and keep the faith. Ev'ryday from right now, gonna use our voices and scream out loud. Take my hand; together we will celebrate

Ev'ryday. Live Ev'ryday. Love ev'ryday. Live ev'ryday. Love ev'ryday. Ev'ryday, ev'ryday, ev'ryday, ev'ryday, ev'ryday, ev'ryday, ev'ryday. Ev'ryday.

Like Tatiana, I feel this song is telling you to live everday to the fullest and appreciate each day that you've been given. That's why I chose this song. It always makes me feel happy and uplifted whenever I hear it. It also makes me think that no matter how bad things get, you still have to be grateful for the good things in your life whether it's your family, friends, school, church, or the neighborhood you live in. The lines in this song that are particularly significant to me are "They say that you should follow and chase down what you dream." These lines make me feel that it's important to go after what you want in life and that nohing is too difficult for you to achieve. The lines that really move me in this song are "Gonna run while we're young, and keep the faith." These lines move me because I feel that they urge you to do what you love while you're young because when you're older and look back on your life and didn't do what made you happy then you missed out on a lot. I also feel that these lines inspire me to trust in God and his plan for me. It's important to know that God will always be there for you and to keep your faith in him.

I have to say that all of you guys have really original and modern song choices. Meanwhile, I actually had a tough time picking anything that was contemporary so I chose an old classic, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." This is how it goes, though I'm sure most of you know the lyrics:

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

I chose this song because it's about dreaming and hoping. It lifts you up on a dreary day and takes you to that place where dreams come true. Yeah I know that's really corny but one can't always be a realist- leave some room for the imagination. To a certain extant, I would call myself a dreamer and this song never fails to put my head among the clouds.

She said I think I'll go to Boston
I think I'll start a new life,
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name,
I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather,
I think I'll get a lover and fly em out to Spain...
I think I'll go to Boston,
I think that I'm just tired
I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind...
I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset,
I hear it's nice in the Summer, some snow would be nice... oh yeah,

Boston... where no one knows my name...
Where no one knows my name...
Where no one knows my name...
Yeah Boston...
Where no one knows my name.

I also had a really hard time choosing a song because I don't know that any song specifically describes my life. I chose Boston by Augustana because it is probably one of my favorite songs. I always listen to this song when I am going to do something different or new for me and I think I do because the lyrics are all about starting over and going somewhere new. It always calms me down when I am really nervous about something.
I also chose this song because, I am the type of person that gets kind of stir-crazy when I've been in one place for too long. I really like change. Also, any time anyone mentions Boston (and Julia can attest to this) I always break out singing this song.

okay, this is sad, but here it goes.

You think you know me
Word on the street, is that you do
You want my history
What others tell you won't be true

I walked a thousand miles while everyone was asleep
Nobody's really seen my million subtleties

[Chorus]
Got stains on my t-shirt and I'm the biggest flirt
Right now I'm solo but that will be changing eventually, oh
Got bruises on my heart and sometimes I get dark
If you want my auto, want my autobiography
Baby, just ask me

I hear you talking
Well, it's my turn now
I'm talking back
Look in my eyes
So you can see just where I'm at

I walked a thousand miles to find one river of peace
And I'll walk a million more to find what this shit means

[Chorus]
Got stains on my t-shirt and I'm the biggest flirt
Right now I'm solo but that will be changing eventually
Got bruises on my heart and sometimes I get dark
If you want my auto, want my autobiography
Baby, just ask me

I'm a bad ass girl in this messed up world
I'm a sexy girl in this crazy world
I'm a simple girl in a complex world
A nasty girl, you wanna get with me
You wanna mess with me

[Chorus]
Got stains on my t-shirt and I'm the biggest flirt
Right now I'm solo but that will be changing eventually, oh
I laugh more than I cry
You piss me off, good-bye
Got bruises on my heart and sometimes I get dark
If you want my auto, want my autobiography
Baby, just ask me

this was actually stuck in my head a little bit ago. but it really does knind of describe me. its a song about being yourself and not apologizing for it, and if you know me at all, than you know that thats preeeeettymuch exactly how i do :p

the song i chose is "Machine Ballerina" by Suzanne Vega:

Am I an afternoon's pastime?
a thing on a string
to be thrown and retrieved
like a phone call received
on somebody's birthday
to tease and delight
and then say goodnight
and then just say goodbye?

Am I a toy on a tray ?
a soft piece of clay
queen or clown for the day
machine ballerina
soldier of tin
standing so loyal
while you sit so royal
then I'm put away?

For your approval,
perusal,
and your possible
refusal,
I'm amusing,
I'm a puppet for your play.

Am I your Mad Magazine?
skin trampoline
pin-up pinball machine
your fantasy girl
of puzzling parts
but none fits or starts
we match wits but not hearts
I'm heard but never seen?

This song has literal and figurative meanings for me. In the world of ballet, you're expected to be perfect and exciting to entertain others. You dance partially for yourself, but others expect so much from you. Often times in life I feel the same way even off the stage. Between competition and expectations sometimes it seems as if I'll never be good enough. Sometimes it seems as if people only see one side to you, the outer, polished, perfect side, like you're expected to live for the approval of others. Life shouldn't be about serving others and entertaining their needs all the time, you should enjoy life and live to be the best you can. I've learned that sometimes I don't want to be a machine ballerina, and that's fine with me.

I chose the song "Sidewalks" by Story of the Year.

The bridges are crumpled,
The water soaks into rocks,
That fell at the bottom of the road. (At the end the town)
The town that we lived in.
The memories shakin apart from the weeds that grow.

Over the sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
Sidewalks,
Like the time we thought was made for you.
Or

Out on the front porch,
watching the cars as they go by,
Eighteen blue, twenty one grey,
Looking ahead for the first time that we could drive,
Out on our own,
To speed away

From the sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
Sidewalks,
Like the time we thought was made for you.
Or

All of days that past us by,
All of the sun is gone...
Away

Sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,

Sidewalks,
Running away from the streets we knew,
Sidewalks,
Like the time we thought was made for you.
(Sidewalks)
The bridges are crumpled,
(Sidewalks)
The water soaks into rocks,
That fell at the bottom of the road.

I chose this song because I feel it represents not only me, but almost everyone of every age. This song pretty much tells the story of growing up and just simply wanting more. "Sidewalks" talks about leaving what you know behind but reminds you to always check that your safety net, or your sidewalk, is right next to you. I believe a sidewalk is a clear symbol of a safety net because a sidewalk literally keeps you safe from cars and any other dangerous vehicles in the street. When you're a kid you stay on the sidewalks because you're limited to them. As you grow up, restrictions are lifted, but you still have to be in control of how you live. You leave certain things behind, and this song picks up on feelings that anyone would feel as they go through different phases of life such as feeling scared or being anxious. "Sidewalks" can also represent how everyone's view of life can change. You have your childhood memories, but as you get older your "memories are shaken apart" and all your childhood dreams are different. "Sidewalks" is about finding your own way through your own life, taking chances and leaving what you know best.

"Fidelity" -Regina Spektor
I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost, in the sounds

I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

Suppose I never ever met you
Suppose we'd never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you
Kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
Suppose you never ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs
Just to break my own fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Break my fall, break my fall

All my friends say that of course its
Gonna get better, gonna get better
Better, better, better, better, better, better, better

I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost, in the sounds

I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
Breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

I chose this song because I feel like this song describes someone who is confused. Everyone is telling her what to do and she can't make the right decisions. (or at least thats how I interpret it) In the song she seems to be confused about love, but for myself, I just feel like there are things, with being 15 years old, that I don't know or understand. Everyone gives you a different answer, and I feel like I have some many questions left unanswered which is why i find that this song could be my soliloquy.

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it's all mine. Oh.

Do what you want, but you're never gonna break me.
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me. No.

Take me away: A secret place.
A sweet escape: Take me away.
Take me away to better days.
Take me away: A hiding place.

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it's all mine. Oh.

Do what you want, but you're never gonna break me.
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me. No.

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it's all mine. Oh.

Wish that you could, but you ain't gonna own me.
Do anything you can to control me.
Oh, no.

Take me away: A secret place.
A sweet escape: Take me away.
Take me away to better days.
Take me away: A hiding place.

There's a place that I go,
But nobody knows.
Where the rivers flow,
And I call it home.

And there's no more lies.
In the darkness, there's light.
And nobody cries.
There's only butterflies.

Take me away: A secret place.
A sweet escape: Take me away.
Take me away to better days.
Take me away: A hiding place.

Take me away: A secret place.
A sweet escape: Take me away.
Take me away to better days.
Take me away: A hiding place.

Take me away: A secret place.
To better days take me away.
Take me away to better days.
Take me away: A hiding place.

The sun is on my side.
Take me for a ride.
I smile up to the sky.
I know I'll be all right.

The sun is on my side.
Take me for a ride.
I smile up to the sky.
I know I'll be all right.

So this is "Pocketful of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield. I chose this song because it makes me happy and reminds me that nobody should make me feel otherwise. I like this song because it's positive and it helps me remember that I'm my own person.

My song is the Chinese National Anthem~ I am extremely proud of my Chinese heritage, and also, we used to sing this every Monday in my elementary school in China. Here's a translation I found (more convenient than translating it myself~^^)

Arise, ye who refuse to be slaves;
With our very flesh and blood
Let us build our new Great Wall!
The peoples of China are at their most critical time,
Everybody must roar defiance.
Arise!Arise!Arise!
Millions of hearts with one mind,
Brave the enemy's gunfire,
March on!
Brave the enemy's gunfire,
March on! March on! March on, on!

It was really difficult for me to go through my ipod and try to choose a song for this assignment.
About 400 songs later, I decided on "Shoot Down the Stars" by Gym Class Heroes:

'81 was the year ... hit the fan in a major way
a sad day for inspiring artists
Almost 20 years after the fact I'm still on my hustle
Diggin' graves for an inspiring artist
Pushing daises up
And never compromise the arts and make a crowd clap
Shit on since the first show
But we turned feces to fertilizer
So when you diss it's just food for the flowers to grow
Sold 15 plus out of backpacks, no trunks
Too young to drive
But live hip hop
And the kids are upstate kids that thought rap was past tense, hence the last name
Got name for playing basements and such and making songs that our friends loved
And when the fish bowl got too small to hold the goldfish
We filled our gills with water and ripped that mother... like

So take a step back
And a breath in
Let it out now
Put your chin up
You can do it tiger
You a man now
And in your dream it's time to do the best you can now

We bring ourselves down
And build ourselves up in disappointment
How fragile we are
So fragile we are, we just don't show it
We'll shake up this town
And shoot down the stars for our enjoyment
So sexy we are
So sexy we are, we just don't know it

This is what you wanted right?
How many nights were spent pouring out your guts dummy?
How many punishments endured for .... up in school?
How many teachers proved wrong by writing songs instead?
My point exactly
But you knew you had a spark, did you?
Something producin' to the dreams your pop's dreams lent you
Stay focused when nothing seemed to make sense
Stealing verses with that Cassius Clay confidence
Sometimes you stubborn as ...., that's the McCoy in you
You learn to be a man without losing the boy in you
Just do your thing man

So take a step back
And a breath in
Let it out now
Put your chin up
You can do it tiger
You a man now
And in your dream it's time to do the best you can now

So take a step back
And a breath in
Let it out now
Put your chin up
You can do it tiger
You a man now
And in your dream it's time to do the best you can now

We bring ourselves down
And build ourselves up in disappointment
How fragile we are
So fragile we are, we just don't show it
We'll shake up this town
And shoot down the stars for our enjoyment
So sexy we are
So sexy we are, we just don't know it

We break ourselves down
And build ourselves up in disappointment
How fragile we are
So fragile we are, we just don't show it
We shake up this town
And shoot down the stars for our enjoyment
So sexy we are
So sexy we are, we just don't know it

So take a step back
And a breath in
Let it out now
Put your chin up
You can do it tiger
You a man now
And in your dream it's time to do the best you can now

We bring ourselves down
And build ourselves up in disappointment
How fragile we are
So fragile we are, we just don't show it
We'll shake up this town
And shoot down the stars for our enjoyment
So sexy we are
So sexy we are, we just don't know it

This song conveys a really important message about staying stong through hard times in your life, and promises that you can always overcome everything&everyone who puts you down. No matter what happens you will move on, become a better person, and nothing can stop you.

I really wanted to use the song "4 minutes" for the assignment as well. I dont enjoy this song that much at all. The lyrics have very little meaning and the song is pointless, but apparently its a representation of a relationship I have with somebody in my life:

(Madonna:)
Come on boy
I've been waiting for somebody
To pick up my stroll

(Justin:)
Well don't waste time
Give me a sign
Tell me how you wanna roll

(Madonna:)
I want somebody to speed it up for me
Then take it down slow
There's enough room for both

(Justin:)
Well, I can handle that
You just gotta show me where it's at
Are you ready to go
(Are you ready to go)

(Madonna & Justin:)
If you want it
You already got it
If you thought it
It better be what you want
If you feel it
It must be real just
Say the word and imma give you what you want

(Madonna & Justin:)
Time is waiting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
Grab a boy
Grab a girl
Time is waiting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
We only got 4 minutes, 4 minutes

(Madonna & Justin:)
Keep it up, keep it up, don't be a pri, hey
Madonna, uh
You gotta get in line, hop
Tick tock tick tock tick tock
That's right, keep it up, keep it up, don't be a pri, hey
Madonna, uh
You gotta get in line, hop
Tick tock tick tock tick tock

(Madonna:)
Sometimes I think what I need is a you intervention, yeah

(Justin:)
And you know I can tell that you like it
And that it's good, by the way that you move, ooh, hey

(Madonna:)
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, yeah

(Justin:)
But if I die tonight
At least I can say I did what I wanted to do
Tell me, how bout you?

(Madonna & Justin:)
If you want it
You already got it
If you thought it
It better be what you want
If you feel it
It must be real just
Say the word and imma give you what you want

(Madonna & Justin:)
Time is waiting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
Grab a boy
Grab a girl
Time is waiting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
We only got 4 minutes, 4 minutes

The song I chose was “Nolita Fairytale” by Vanessa Carlton. Although I don’t live in Nolita I do get the message behind the song, which is that you live life the way you want it. This song also talks about stuff like fame and money as something you really don’t need in order to be happy. The simple things in life are all you really need in order to get you through the day. So I think this song kind of explains my feelings on how I want to live my life.
I know, you know, we don’t see
We sow our truth, wait patiently

I walk the streets with a song in my head
We ebb and we flow so
Got my toes on my pup at the foot of my bed
My heart always seems to know
Now take the glitz back, I want the soul instead
Cos I found some kind of fairytale

I used to
Hover outside my truth
Always worry of what I’d lose
Take away my record deal
Go on, I don’t need it
Spent the last 2 years getting to what’s real
And now I can see so clear
I hope you feel just like I feel
I found some kind of fairytale

Want a garden by the ocean tide
Because I lose my way searching for stage lights
Well, Stevie knows and I thank her so
Cos it’s your seeds I sow
And now I know

Nolita flat on rent control
That’s the life I choose
And you drag me to the fashion show
The poses that I see through
The movies in the afternoon

Cos I found some kind of fairytale
Nolita Fairytale
Ba da da da da da, Ba da da da da da
Nolita Fairytale
Ba da da da da da, Ba da da da da da

Nolita Fairytale
Nolita Fairytale
Nolita Fairytale

Well I was going to use Alyssa’s song “2nd Period: Shoot Down The Stars” by the Gym Class Heroes, but since it was taken I have decided to use “I Want Those Flashing Lights” by Colin Munroe, which is like the best original remix to Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” ever. Every on should check it out on YouTube.
You got your name in lights
But they can't seem to spell mine right
You sold a mil today
Today I'm lucky if I get paid
If I could get paid
I'd survive another day
Maybe if I could get played
They'd know my name
Your girls are fine it seems
A dime or two in every dozen
I only wanted one but I'm no one
So I get nothing
But all this nothing I've got
Is all that's keeping me tough
Maybe this thing I've got is enough
When I'm alone and the lights go off
I'm never sure if I can make it that far
All that I know is
I want those
I want those
I want those flashing lights...
You dropped the class re-wrote the books
and I'm still trying to pass
I'm at the back, professor, a question
what is the secret to these (flashing lights)
Is it just make believe
It's not easy
Wish it as ABC
You did your time
You broke your wire
And now you got your shine
I'm in the line
Lost in the crowd
Still trying to figure it out
Still trying to do it right
Still trying to find the light
Maybe not tonight
When I'm alone and the lights go off
I'm never sure if I can make it that far
All that I know is
I want those
I want those
I want those flashing lights...
When you're all alone and the lights go off
Did you always know that you would make it this far
All that I know is
I want those I want those
I want those flashing lights...
The reason why I picked this song was because it just reminds me of where I am in my life right now. I’m just here trying to succeed in order to reach my achievement, just like the guy in the song, because he’s trying to do something he loves and has not yet succeeded yet. I’m in that same situation, in that same line to success.

Everybody makes mistakes... Everybody has those days... 1 2 3 4!
Everybody makes mistakes... Everybody has those days... Everybody knows what what I'm talkin' 'bout... Everybody gets that way... [x2]

Sometimes I'm in a jam
I've gotta make a plan
It might be crazy
I do it anyway
No way to know for sure
I'll figure out a cure
I'm patchin' up the holes
But then it overflows
If I'm not doin' to well
Why be so hard on my self?

[Chorus]
Nobody's Perfect!
I gotta work it!
Again and again 'til I get it right
Nobody's Perfect!
You live and you learn it!
And if I mess it up sometimes...
Nobody's perfect

Sometimes I work a scheme
But then it flips on me
Doesn't turn out how I planned
get stuck in quick sand
No problem, can be solved
Once I get involved
I try to be delicate
Then crash right into it
My intentions are good
Sometimes just misunderstood

[Chorus]

Nobody's perfect!
I gotta work it!
I know in time I'll find a way
Nobody's perfect!

Sometimes I fix things up
And they fall apart again
Nobody's perfect

I might mix things up
But I always get it right in the end

[Talking]
Next time you feel like... it's just one of those days...
when you just can't seem to win
If things don't turn out the way you plan,
FIGURE SOMETHING ELSE OUT!
Don't stay down! Try again! YEAH!

[Singing (x2)]
Everybody makes mistakes.....
everybody has those days.....
everybody knows what, what I'm talkin' 'bout.......
everybody gets that way

Nobody's Perfect!
I gotta work it!
Again and again 'til I get it right!
Nobody's Perfect!
Ya live and ya learn it!
And if I mess it up sometimes...
Nobody's Perfect!
I gotta work it!
I know in time I'll find a way
Nobody's Perfect.
Ya live and ya learn it!
'Cause everybody makes mistakes
Nobody's Perfect!
Nobody's Perfect! No no! Nobody's Perfect!

The reason I picked this song is most likely self evident, if you read the lyrics it is easy to understand. I think that this song is easy for anyone to apply to their own life since it is true. plus the song is pretty awesome. ANDDD if you ask Deej she'll hook you up with a good video on youtube that goes with it. Besides being true about nobody being perfect the lyrics also state that everyone makes mistakes which is also pretty true. I really don't think there is anything else I can say about this song and since we are all human I feel like we can relate to this song.

Oh and this is Hannah Montana and not Miley Cyrus or Stewart? I was told by Deej also there was a difference.

I chose "No Reins" by Rascal Flatts to describe myself. It is an upbeat song (even though you might not think so if you just read through the lyrics). It just has a really good beat and its about moving on and not letting things get to you and its just a really happy song that I can relate to and sing all the time.

She left that loser in a dust cloud
Heart in his hand, chin on the ground
Cried her last tear for that clown
She can see a little clearer now
She said, "Oh, oh, I gotta go and find me"
Oh, oh she found the strength to break free

CHORUS
Like a painted wild mustang
Flyin' out across the open range
Finally gets to live her life that way
No fear, no fences, nobody - no reins

No reins

All she's ever felt is held back
She says, "It's kinda nice to hear myself laugh"
She's gonna do a lot more of that
She's makin' plans and makin' tracks
She said, "Oh, oh I gotta go and find me"
Oh, oh she found the strength to break free

Oh-oh she's learnin' how to let go
Oh-oh which ever way the wind blows
Oh-oh she's learnin' how to let go (learnin' how to let go)

I chose the song "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson. I first heard this song while watching Grey's Anatomy and I really love this song because its about acceptance and thats basically an idea I apply to myself and others.

If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.

Cause I love the way you say good morning.
And you take me the way I am.

If you are chilly, here, take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.

Cause I love the way you call me baby.
And you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches to all you tear.

Cause I love you more than I could ever promise.
And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.

I chose Janie's Got A Gun by Aerosmith because this song sends a strong message to me. This song was made about sexual abuse, and child abuse in the 80's. It end an incresingly strong message to the public because at this time no one was talking about what was actually happening in these homes to these children. This song just really amazed not only because i'm a die-hard Aerosmith fan but also the fact that they surpassed all the social stigmas and chose to speak about it anyway because even though at first they were not embraced by the public due to the strong content of the song they sang it anyway.

Dum, dum, dum, honey what have you done?
Dum, dum, dum it's the sound of my gun.
Dum, dum, dum, honey what have you done?
Dum, dum, dum it's the sound
(CHORUS)
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her whole world's come undone
From lookin' straight at the sun
What did her daddy do?
What did he put you through?
They said when Janie was arrested
they found him underneath a train
But man, he had it comin' Now that Janie's got a gun
she ain't never gonna be the same.
(CHORUS)
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Tell me now it's untrue.
What did her daddy do?
He jacked a little bitty baby
The man has got to be insane
They say the spell that he was under the lightning and the
thunder knew that someone had to stop the rain

Run away, run away from the pain yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Run away run away from the pain yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away, run away, run, run away
(CHORUS)
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
What did her daddy do?
It's Janie's last I.O.U.
She had to take him down easy and put a bullet in his brain
She said 'cause nobody believes me. The man was such a sleeze.
He ain't never gonna be the same.

Run away, run away from the pain yeah, yeah
yeah yeah yeah
Run away run away from the pain yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Run away, run away, run, run away
(CHORUS)
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Everybody is on the run

Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Because Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run
Janie's got a gun

ok so i found this blog kind of hard .... but here are the two songs i picked both are from instant star by alexz johnso aka jude harrison
the first is 24 hours the second is fade to black

24 hours basically says how i feel when i get depressed

I've been sitting in the dirt (for 24 hours)
I've forgotten what im worth (for 24 hours)
Said that you'd be here last night

I'm trying to shake you from my skin (for 48 hours)
Clean up this mess i've been put in (for 48 hours)
I'm guessing you can't always win
I'm guessing you can't always win

[Chorus]
I can't have anything I want
They say I'm just too young
But it's not my fault
I'll find my own way home if I gotta
I'll make it all alone if I gotta

I'm not so trustful with my friends
I'm on the road alone again
I guess im tired of giving in

I'm sick of wishing you were near
You've gone your way, you've made it clear
Why do I feel you everywhere?
Why do I feel this everywhere?

[Chorus]
I can't have anything I want
They say I'm just too young
But it's not my fault
I'll find my own way home if I gotta
I'll make it all alone if I gotta

Don't wanna spend my time
Watching the world go by
I think I'd rather die
And I dont got a plan
Don't wanna justify
To stay where I stand
Something I won't deny

[Chorus]
I can't have anything I want
They say I'm just too young
But it's not my fault
I'll find my own way home if I gotta
I'll make it all alone if I gotta

[Chorus]
I can't have anything I want
They say I'm just too young
But it's not my fault
I'll find my own way home if I gotta
I'll make it all alone

24 hours
24 hours
24 hours
24 hours
24 hours

this is how i feel when im mad at people in my life or ive had a fight with them and we're mad at eachother

Three Days,
Eight Hours,
Fourteen minutes gone,
You bend,
I'll break,
Like in every song,
Maybe I'm too scared to call,
Maybe I'm too tough to fall.

Everything you are,
Everything reminds me of,
Everything you are,
Fades to black,
Everytime I see your face,
Screaming the secrets we share,
We fade to Black.

I call out for your warm embrace,
Feel your tears fall,
Upon my face,
What makes me so bullet proof?
What makes me act so removed?

Everything you are,
Everything reminds me of,
Everything you are,
Fades to black,
Everytime I see your face,
Screaming the secrets we share

Feels like I'm running,
Running as fast as I can,
Feels like I'm trying,
Trying to understand why I keep crashing as hard as I can into you.

Da da da,
Da da da,
Da da da da da da,
Da da da,
Da da da,
Da da da da da da,

Everything you are,
Everything reminds me of,
Everything you are,
Fades to black,
Everytime I see your face,
Screaming the secrets we share...

Everything you are,
Everything reminds me of,
Everything you are,
Fades to black,
Everytimes I see your face,
Screaming the secrets we share.

We fade to black

well i found this blog hard to do. as i was looking through my ipod i found a lot of songs to pick that can sum up my mood at certain times but not like my general mood. the most success i got was when i was looking through my rascal flatts songs because they really do sum up my life!
but instead i chose to pick Jessica Andrews song called Who I Am. its about having friends who love you for who you are
If I live to be a hundred
And never see the seven wonders
That'll be alright
If I don't make it to the big leagues
If I never win a Grammy
I'm gonna be just fine
'Cause I know exactly who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

So when I make big mistake
When I fall flat on my face
I know I'll be alright
Should my tender heart be broken
I will cry those teardrops knowin'
I will be just fine
'Cause nothin' changes who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I'm a saint and I'm a sinner
I'm a loser, I'm a winner
I'm am steady and unstable
I am young but I'm able

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

ROGER
Who do you think you are?
Barging in on me and my guitar
Little girl -- hey
The door is that way
You better go you know
The fire's out anyway
Take your powder -- take your candle
Your sweet whisper
I just can't handle
Well take your hair in the moonlight
Your brown eyes -- goodbye, goodnight
I should tell you I should tell you
I should tell you I should -- no!
Another time -- another place
Our temperature would climb
There'd be a long embrace
We'd do another dance
It'd be another play
Looking for romance?
Come back another day
Another day

MIMI
The heart may freeze or it can burn
The pain will ease if I can learn
There is no future
There is no past
I live this moment as my last
There's only us
There's only this
Forget regret
Or life is yours to miss
No other road
No other way
No day but today

ROGER
Excuse me if I'm off track
But if you're so wise
Then tell me -- why do you need smack?
Take your needle
Take your fancy prayer
And don't forget
Get the moonlight out of your hair
Long ago -- you might've lit up my heart
But the fire's dead -- ain't never ever gonna start
Another time -- another place
The words would only rhyme
We'd be in outer space
It'd be another song
We'd sing another way
You wanna prove me wrong?
Come back another day
Another day

MIMI
There's only yes
Only tonight
We must let go
To know what's right
No other course
No other way
No day but today
(Lights slowly fade up on the Life Support group.)

MIMI & OTHERS
I can't control
My destiny
I trust my soul
My only goal is just
To be
There's only now
There's only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear
No other path
No other way
No day but today...

ROGER
Control your temper
She doesn't see
Who says that there's a soul?
Just let me be...
Who do you think you are?
Barging in on me and my guitar
Little girl, hey
The door is that way
The fire's out anyway

ALL
No day but today
No day but today
No day but today
No day but today
No day but today

ROGER
Take your powder; take your candle
Take your brown eyes, your pretty smile, your silhouette
Another time, another place
Another rhyme, a warm embrace
Another dance, another way
Another chance, another day

I chose Another Day from RENT. i have been through a conversation like the one that mimi and rodger are having. i think you have to live in the present and not regret anything in the past. you never know what is going to happen tomorrow or if there even will be a tomorrow so you have to live the day like its your last.

Like everyone else, I found this blog hard to do because I couldn't decide on one song. I basically grew up listening to the Beatles and love the music so I chose this Beatles song, Blackbird. It's a song of hope which has great meaning and effect on me.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

the other song i chose to do was Best Days by Graham Colton.
I thought this would be a good song to chose because it talks about living life as the best as it can be and how they are all your best days ever.
Samantha

Musical Preference

music is a really big part of my life. im always listening to my Ipod or the radio. I think that sometimes my life is one big musical that could so easily be narrated by music! I always burst out into random songs that seem to fit the mood of the room and it really entertains me. so yeah my life wouldnt be the same without music!

The Power of Music

i think music influences many people wheather they realize it or not! music can always influence my life and others. like if im upset about something i can put on an upbeat song and automatically feel better.

My Voice
My range is from a low G to a high D. I feel like that was pretty average because all of the people around me had about the same range. I cannot really determine the quality of my voice because when I sing, I hear something completely different than what I am actually singing. I imagine that I have a kind of normal voice, aha if that's possible. I mean, my speaking voice is not distinguishable through a crowd, it kind of blends in. It is not too high or too low, so I'm guessing it's kind of smooth, but I could be completely wrongg haha. As all of you know, I like to talk, a lot =) I have been talking pretty much my whole life, and that is definately a huge factor in the way I sing. I mean I'm no professional, but I don't feel like I sing like a dying animal(but once again I could be completely wrong loll) I grew up around music my whole life. Like Irina, I was obsessed with Disney movies and loveddd to sing to the songs. I have also been going to musicals since I was like 5, therefore music is a very big part of my life. Whenever I am in a car, the radio must be on. I hate silence aha. Also like Irina, my voice changed naturally. I didn't do any type of vocal training it just kind of happened as I got older.

Cultural Song
The song i chose was say say oh palymate. although it isnt really a cultural song it is one my mother and grandmother taught me and snag to me as a child. i use to have a video that would sing this song to me and i fell in love with it so it has a sentamental value to it
Say, say, oh playmate,
Come out and play with me
And bring your dollies three
Climb up my apple tree
Shout down my rain barrel
Slide down my cellar door
And we'll be jolly friends
Forever more more more more more
Say, say, oh playmate
I cannot play with you
My dolly's got the flu
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo
Ain't got no rain barrel
Ain't got no cellar door
But we'll be jolly friends
Forever more more more more more

Soliloquy

My Musical Future
i dont really think that a job directly involving music would be right for me. although music is a part of my life its not something i would want to do as a career. since i do want to work in marketing and advertising i wouldnt mind working with music in that sense just nothing directly related

Ok so i changed my mind i found a better one i now pick colours of the wind, this song means a lot to me on two levels, one it is about appreciating life and the nature around as and and to see each person for who they are inside and the wonder and the beauty of life, the second reason why i choose this song is because for me it represented a very terrifying moment, this was the first song i have ever sang in public so listening to it helps me reflect, how I have changed since I first sung it and how my life is now and it also helps me direct my attention towards the future and the good times to come, Looking back to move forward.

You think I'm an ignorant savage
And you've been so many places, I guess it must be so
But still I cannot see, if the savage one is me
How can there be so much that tyou don't know?
You don't know...

You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or ask the grinning bob cat why he grinned
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once never wonder what they're worth

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle in a hoop that never ends

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or let the eagle tell you where hes been
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountian
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind

How high does that sycamore grow
If you cut it down then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
We need to paint with all the colours of the wind

You can own the earth and still
All you'll own is earth until
You can paint with all the colours of the wind

This is by far the most difficult blog assignment so far. The minute I heard we had to pick a song to reflect our feelings, something really significant, a hundred different songs popped into my head- some complete songs and others just phrases. It's impossible to pick just one. I decided to go with something by The Killers, because it just made sense to, seeing as how they are the most significant musicians in my life. I narrowed it down to three: "All These Things That I've Done", "Bling (Confession of a King)", and "Sweet Talk". And then I decided to pick one out of those to post the lyrics to.

Actually, thinking about those three right now, they kind of all have the same message expressed in three pretty different ways.

"All These Things That I've Done"
When there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son?
One more son...
If you can hold on,
If you can hold on, Hold on.

I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know
No you don't, you don't
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

Another head aches,
Another heart breaks,
I'm so much older than I can take.
And my affection,
Well it comes and goes.
I need direction to perfection,
No no no no

Help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out, yeah.

And when there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son?
These changes ain't changing me
The gold-hearted boy I used to be.

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out, yeah
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

I got soul, but I'm not a soldier (x10)

Time truth departs.

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out, yeah
You're gonna bring yourself down, yeah
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You're gonna bring yourself down, yeah
You're gonna bring yourself down

Over and in,
Last call for sin
While everyone's lost,
The battle is won
With all these things that I've done
All these things that I've done
(Time, truth and hearts)

If you can hold on
If you can hold on...

It's hard to interpret a song in just one way, so all I'm going to say is that it's about struggles in life, and how there's always, always hope. There's more to it than that, but I believe that you can't tell someone what art is supposed to mean, because it was never meant to mean just one thing.

for my soliloque i chose the song born to make you happy by briteny spears
I'm sitting here alone up in my room
And thinking about the times that we've been through
(oh my love)
I'm looking at a picture in my hand

Trying my best to understand
I really want to know what we did wrong
with a love that felt so strong

If only you were here tonight
I know that we could make it right

CHORUS
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy
'Cause you're the only one within my heart
I was born to make you happy
Always and forever you and me
That's the way our lives should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy

I know I've been a fool since you've been gone
I'd better give it up and carry on (oh my love)
'Cause living in a dream of you and me
is that the way my life should be?

I don't want to cry a tear for you
So forgive me if I do
If only you were here tonight
I know that we could make it right

CHORUS

I'd do anything, I'd give you my world
I'd wait forever, to be your girl
Just call out my name,
and I will be there
Just to show you how much I care

CHORUS

Always and forever you and me
That's the way our life should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy
I was born to make you happy
Always and forever you and me
that's the way our life should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy.

i think that this song shows my more loving/caring side .. its a very cute song and ive liked it since i was little .. she used to be my idol before her well .. u kno .. new life .. when i listen to this song i think of someone very special in my life and it makes me smile when i listen to it because i think of him =]

ABUELA CLAUDIA
Calor! Calor! Calor!
Calor! Calor! Calor!
Ay Mama!
The summer's hottest day
Paciencia y fe
Paciencia y fe
Ay carajo, it's hot!
But that's okay
Mama would say,
"Paciencia y fe"
It was hotter at home in La Vibora
The Washington Heights of Havana
A crowded city of faces the same as mine
Back as a child in La Vibora
I chased the birds in the plaza
Praying, Mama, you would find work
Combing the stars in the sky for some sort of sign
Ay, Mama, so many stars in Cuba
En Nueva York we can't see beyond our streetlights
To reach the roof you gotta bribe the supa
Ain't no cassiopia in Washington Heights
But ain't no food in La Vibora
I remember nights, anger in the streets, hunger at the windows
Women folding clothes, playing with my friends in the summer rain
Mama needs a job, Mama says we're poor, one day you say, "Vamos a Nueva York"
And Nueva York was far, but Nueva York had work, and so we came
And now I'm wide awake
A million years too late
I talk to you, imagine what you'd do
Remembering what we went through
Nueva York! Ay Mama!
It wasn't like today, you'd say,
"Paciencia y fe

NEW YORKERS
Paciencia y fe

ABUELA CLAUDIA
Paciencia y fe."

NEW YORKERS
Paciencia y -

ABUELA CLAUDIA
Fresh off the boat in America
Freezing in early December
A crowded city in 1943
Learning the ropes in America
En espanol I remember
Dancing with Mayor Laguardia
All of society welcoming Mami and me! Ha!

EMPLOYERS
You better clean this mess!

ABUELA CLAUDIA
Paciencia y fe...

EMPLOYERS
You better learn ingles!

ABUELA CLAUDIA
Paciencia y fe...

EMPLOYERS
You better not be late
You better pull your weight
Are you better off then you were with the birds of La Vibora?

ABUELA CLAUDIA
Sharing double beds, trying to catch a break, struggling with English
Listening to friends, finally got a job working as a maid
So we cleaned some homes, polishing with pride, scrubbing the whole of the upper east side
The days into weeks, the weeks into years, and here I stayed

NEW YORKERS
Paciencia y fe...
Paciencia y fe...
Paciencia y fe...
This is an excerpt from the song, "Pacienca Y Fe (Patience & Faith)" from the Broadway musical, In The Heights. The song is about having the patience and faith to deal with your problems. I really like the song because it encourages me to have patience and faith in the things that I do so that I may make a smart decisions.

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

This song is "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. I chose this song because I like this song and because it has a cute message that I think everyone tries to follow.

"let go" by frou frou
Drink up baby down
Mmm, are you in or are you out?
Leave your things behind,
'Cuz it's all going off without you.
'Scuze me, too busy,
You're writing your tragedy.
These mishaps, your bubble wrap, when,
You've no idea what you're like...

(So let go)
So let go
Mmm, jump in
Oh well whatcha waiting for?
It's alright,
'Cuz there's beauty
In the breakdown.
(So let go)
Yeah, let go
Just get in
Oh it's so amazing here.
It's alright,
'Cuz there's beauty
In the breakdown.

It gains the more it gives,
And then it rises with the fall.
So hand me that remote.
Can't you see that all that stuff's a sideshow?
Such boundless, pleasure,
We've no time for later now, you,
Can't await, your own arrival you've,
Twenty seconds to comply.

(So let go)
So let go
Jump in
Oh well whatcha waiting for?
It's alright,
'Cuz there's beauty
In the breakdown.
(So let go)
Yeah let go
Just get in
Oh, it's so amazing here.
It's alright,
'Cuz there's beauty
In the breakdown.

i chose this song first off because it has a pretty awesome beat and you immediately get "in the mood" of the song. i first heard it in the movie garden state and from there on i was in love. i eventually listened to the words and thought, "wow, this is pretty uplifting". its about getting over mistakes and messing up and just letting go. you shouldnt bask in the unhappiness of messing up you should get over it and be thankful it happened so you could learn from it.
i like when she says "so hand me the remote". its like how i feel sometimes towards myself. stop sulking and enjoy life.

IT STARTS WITH
ONE THING/I DONT KNOW WHY
IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY
KEEP THAT IN MIND/I DESIGNED THIS RHYME
TO EXPLAIN IN DUE TIME
ALL I KNOW
TIME IS A VALUABLE THING
WATCH IT FLY BY AS THE PENDULUM SWINGS
WATCH IT COUNT DOWN TO THE END OF THE DAY
THE CLOCK TICKS LIFE AWAY
IT'S SO UNREAL
DIDN'T LOOK OUT BELOW
WATCH THE TIME GO RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW

TRYING TO HOLD ON/BUT DIDN'T EVEN KNOW
WASTED IT ALL JUST TO
WATCH YOU GO
I KEPT EVERYTHING INSIDE AND EVEN THOUGH I TRIED/IT ALL FELL APART
WHAT IT MEANT TO ME/WILL EVENTUALLY/BE A MEMORY/OF A TIME WHEN

I TRIED SO HARD
AND GOT SO FAR
BUT IN THE END
IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER
I HAD TO FALL
AND LOSE IT ALL
BUT IN THE END
IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER

ONE THING/I DON'T KNOW WHY IT
DOESN'T EVEN MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY
KEEP THAT IN MIND/IDESIGNED THIS RHYME
TO REMIND MYSELF HOW
I TRIED SO HARD
IN SPITE OF THE WAY YOU WERE MOCKIN' ME
ACTIN' LIKE I WAS PART OF YOUR PROPERTY
REMEMBERING ALL THE TIMES YOU FOUGHT WITH ME /I'M SUPRISED
IT GOT SO [FAR]

THINGS AREN'T THE WAY THEY WERE BEFORE
YOU WOULDN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE ME ANYMORE
NOT THAT YOU KNEW BACK THEN
BUT IT ALL COMES BACK TO ME
IN THE END
YOU KEPT EVERYTHING INSIDE AND EVEN THOUGH I TRIED/IT ALL FELL APART WHAT IT MENT TO ME WILL EVENTUALLY BE A MEMORY OF A TIME WHEN

I PUT MY TRUST IN YOU
I PUSHED AS FAR AS I CAN GO
AND FOR ALL THIS
THERE'S ONLY ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW...

I picked "In The End," by Linkin Park as my soliloquy. I chose this song for the way that interpret the lyrics. I feel like the song is saying that sometimes you try so hard so get/achieve something but in the end you dont get what you wanted or that you had give up something precious and valuable to get something good.

One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
Hear the children crying (One Love)
Hear the children crying (One Heart)
Sayin' give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Sayin' let's get together and feel all right

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love)
There is one question I'd really like to ask (One Heart)
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?
Believe me

One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love)
So shall it be in the end (One Heart)
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
One more thing

Let's get together to fight this Holy Armageddon (One Love)
So when the Man comes there will be no no doom (One Song)
Have pity on those whose chances grove thinner
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation

Sayin' One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
I'm pleading to mankind (One Love)
Oh Lord (One Heart)

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Let's get together and feel all right

for my song i chose one love by bob marley because i feel like this song describes my laid back attitude.

its about getting together and being happy, even if this song is religious and i really am not i feel like the message is the same and thats peace and happiness.
