Today, I want to talk about something that happened in my life not very long ago. Some of you may not think it's a big deal, but to me, it was. You see, I have this cat, her name is Shanty (short for Chantilly Lace). I've had her about 6 years. She's a quiet cat, never causes a problem, she was just there for me; to come and sit quietly on my lap and purr; always purring. Ok, well, one day a few weeks ago, my little Shanty wanted to go outside for awhile, so I let her out. And then it started raining. She got lost out in the rain. I wasn't too worried at first, figured she'd be back soon. Everyday, I would go out and call for her, walked the streets looking for her, asking neighbors if they had seen her, walked up and down the creek calling her name.
For two weeks I looked for her everyday. Then, after two weeks, I decided it was time to quit. I was feeling totally lousy as I'm the one who let her out and it was me who wasn't there for her when the rain started, so it was my fault that she got lost in the first place. Since I live in the country, there are any number of things that could have happened to her, from roving dog packs to getting caught in a trap. I never realized how important that little cat was to me till then. Wasn't it my job to look out for her? She was an inside cat, no outside cat smarts, and I had failed her, plain and simple. In my minds eye though, I could just see her walking up out of the creek one day and me being so happy to see her. But, like I said, after two weeks and a day, I decided it was time to let it go, nothing more I could do. So, I was walking to the house by way of the back yard when my little dog (Pita) started barking like a maniac out by the creek. So, I walked back to see what it was that had her so upset, and out of the creek came two of my outside cats, Tux and Aimee, and behind them was my Shanty!! I was over joyed to see her, even though she was light as a feather, probably weighing less than a pound, but there weren't any signs of damage to her body. Somehow she had made it back home, a lot thinner than the last time I had seen her, but otherwise ok. The point of this post is this: even though we sometimes think a loved one is lost forever, believe, have faith, that something is looking out for them and will bring them back home again, even a beloved pet. You just have to let go and let that higher power do the rest. (Rest assured, it will be a long time before I let my little friend outside alone, if ever!!)
Have a great day.

Yes, she is a big part of my family, though I never realized it till she was gone. Now, she follows us around every where and she always stays where she can see one of us at all times, even to the point of being carried about the house, she doesn't care as long as someone is holding her! I can only guess at the hardships she endured while lost for two weeks. But, I am exceedingly grateful that she is back.
