I don't like Oprah in general, really. I dont think someone in her position should be acting as a guide or a teacher about how to live your life. She is so caught up in her own little bubble of wealth and power that I dont think she has a wise bone in her body.
And I also dont like how she agrees with almost everything! Its not even that she's really liberal-its that she doesnt have a thought/mind of her own.
and as for the Secret (which she is a fan of) Its really nothing new. Its philosophy is similar to new age philosophy. Also, I really dont like how it trivializes everything from Judaism to Christianity. Its like its saying: "Hey, lets take little pieces of wise and sacred information and leave out other pieces (which are equally important) and make a philosophy out of it. Its almost like a custom made philosophy (to justify self-centeredness.)
Its main concentration is...ourselves. How can I make ME better. How can I make MY life more enjoyable. How can I get whatever I want.
-It goes down easy, doesn't it? But we're not the center of the universe contrary to popular belief. And this is not just one big dream. Other people matter too. They also have dreams and aspirations just as exciting.............even though their not OURS.
I do agree with positive thinking, and heck, even using our imagination to accomplish goals. But the Secret leaves out important factors like hard work, and discipline. And also, thinking about others.
I will conclude that I do not like Oprah Winfrey for her "philosophy on life" nor her endorsment of similar genres of philosophy. There is more to life than what she teaches/her show teaches.
And there is no Quick fix to solve our deepest problems.
We are too complicated and intircate to dumb down our problems with temporary/quick solutions.
What does it matter if your house is re-designed, or your material needs are met. Or even if you have a few more positive thoughts in your head.
She can't save the world like she thinks she can. She cannot fill those shoes.
I think our deepest problems require help and guidance from God + help from other people + discipline + of course, imagination.
