Police state provides little security
This article, which appeared in USA Today, says that more than half the bombs smuggled aboard airliners by undercover cops in L.A. and Chicago went undetected. This means, one, that terrorists apparently aren't making many bombing attempts, and second, that the 99.99% of innocent passengers who are being treated like criminals are receiving very little protection in return for their harassment. Don't forget that several innocent people have been killed or died in custody at airports because they were considered "security risks", not to mention those who have been manhandled, threatened or forbidden to fly. We've given up our rights to privacy and have submitted to "martial law" while traveling, but we haven't gotten much security in return. I think there is a lesson here.

BTW, my suggestion would be to only harass the really suspicious people, and not mess with the 90% who aren't suspicious. Like people who belong to or associate with terrorist groups (and I'm not talking Animal Liberation Front), from countries that sponsor terrorism, or people from countries that have anti-U.S. terrorist movements (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.)
