Have you heard about the "war on scientology" by the group Anonymous?
If you have not yet heard about it, it is a growing protest movement on the web called Project Chanology or Operation Chanology and its sure to spark and interesting debate here on thoughts. Here are some reference links to get caught up: Wikipedia Article on this War by Anonymous http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Chanology Message to scientology Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ Anonymous / Scientology: Project Chanology Youtube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jsIekN4ZsA Official website & video from Church of Scientology: http://www.scientology.org/ Take a few moments to read up on this and watch these videos and then share your thoughts with us here. I look forward to hearing what you all think and seeing where this conversation goes from here...

I think that there should be freedom of religion for everyone.
After reading through your links and some more info on the net, I have to say that personally, I think it's a load of bullshit, but everybody is free. If they believe in it and want to live a live with it, they should be left to do that. But reading about the start of the war between the Internet and Scientology has nothing to do with religion and I supprt that: Quote:

Scientology in the UK has similarities to cultism and utilises basic methods of psychological programming. The initial concept of "Dianetics" holds some truths, which are physically highlighted to new members / trainees by a thing called an "e-meter" and through counselling which has similarities to guided pathworking. Both of these do work in the right circumstances.
The downside to the organisation within the UK has been that it is "all about the money", something which goes against the grain of the original L R Hubbards teachings. If you wonder why I know so much about UK Scientology, its because I was one for three years, long before Tom Cruise made it 'trendy', (much like Madonna and the Kabballah). I left because I disagreed with the approach used and the focus being placed on the financial rather than the 'clearing' of people. Its not something I am ashamed or embarassed about its simply something I choose not to share unless something like this comes up. As to this 'Anonymous' group, it would appear that they have some sort of axe to grind with Scientology but the worst way to act against something you are opposed to is to give it free publicity through protest. Far better to highlight their arguements and teachings and then argue against those directly. |
