Default Guy Fawkes' Day - and Bonfire Night.

I know that the 5th of November has just passed,

Still: Some of the celebrations tend to be on the following weekend, i. e. now.

Yesterday I took part in such a celebration.

Anybody else, too?

Some people take part in these celebrations all year round but they are arsonist holes (lol)

Sorry for the bad joke. I live in Glasgow and a few of my neighbors were working on the 5th so they are setting off their fireworks at the weekend. Makes sense but i think the pets in the area will be a bit annoyed.

Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.

I just can't help but thinking, it would have been a better place if he had succeeded

Unfortunatly I missed seeing the Guy burn this year. I thought the week had been hijacked by the american sh**t "trick or treat"..............whats that all about.

As a kid we had "penny for the guy" but never did we go around begging for sweets.

Enlighten an unknowing American. What do you actually do to celebrate (?) this day? Sounds like part of it is to burn Guy in effigy?

It happens on the 5th of November and people set lots of Fireworks off and also some have a Bon Fire with a home made Guy Fawkes....the kids used to stand in the streets asking for a Penny For The Guy but dont see that anymore.Trouble is the Fireworks can cause so much harm and even deaths and the Animals get so scared and also some get attacked by kids with Fireworks....just dont like them.

I was just reading up on this. There is actually a traditional menu to go along with the celebrations:

black treacle goods such as bonfire toffee and parkin
toffee apples
baked potatoes, more commonly and traditionally referred to as jacket potatoes, which are wrapped in foil and cooked in the bonfire or its embers
black peas with vinegar
potato pie with pickled red cabbage

I learn something new every day.

Always hated Guy Fawkes night because of two main things...

1. It scares the sh*t out of animals
2. The majority of those who indulge in setting off fireworks are not even aware of what they are supposed to be celebrating, or why they're doing it (other than to be a royal pain in the butt!)

There have been too many 'accidents' and deliberate vandalism/ violence with fireworks. One example is a few years back when some "youths" tied a hamster to a rocket and set it off!!

I'm not sorry to be a party pooper in this instance so, imo, there should ONLY be organised fireworks displays by properly qualified pyrotechnic technicians and the sale of fireworks to domestic users should be curtailed to the use of sparklers and suchlike 'minor' things.

Well, I must confess, I like them a lot.

But it is for the colours and the light - not for the noise.
