Question All American Boy, or Bad Guy ?

I have had a lifelong love affair with the outdoors. Raised on Guns and hunting, hooks and fishing and on traps and trapping cute little furbearing critters.

I carried a rifle for my Uncle Sam and when I got out I began acquiring rifles, shotguns and handguns....and ammunition.

Adults I believe are a product of their upbringing. Mine was the "Code of the West", and it was GOD, GUNS, GUTS and JOHN WAYNE!

I have been a productive member of society, paid my fair share of taxes, raised children and then a few grandchildren and call myself a patriot.

Am I a bad guy...a damned conservative, 'redneck' country boy?
Or am I an All American lad?

Why do people connect conservative or country with bad?
I'm not big on having guns in the house - you're far more likely to hurt a member of your family than an intruder - but I have no problem with people who have a different way of life than I do.
I think it's good to learn to defend yourself, be that learning to shoot or taking self-defense classes, I just believe you have to be very responsible for what you start. And I'm sure you are.
I don't hunt because I don't need food, I buy that. If I had no other way to get food, I would have to hunt. And I wouldn't be crying about animal rights if I had hungry kids.
I used to enjoy fishing with my kids. I suppose that makes me evil.
I don't think anything you said makes you bad or a red-neck.
Welcome to America.

You may be old school.
It's reasonable to predict the Gł code of the west is on its way out.
Certainly arguing its continued necessity (ie as necessary as 200+ years ago, when the west was won) is going nowhere fast.

Let me just say this: City slickers think the old west ways are passe. But are the gangs that breed in the cities any better?
When the anti-gun crowd gets pushed into a corner by the illegal gun totin' criminals, they might be quite happy to see an old west type gunslinger come to their rescue.

In Canada, few cities, beside Toronto have a severe gang problem, so let's agree gangs are extremely different from the indians and rattlesnakes and the need to kill to eat of the mid-1800's.
If gangs are a way of everyday life where you life, move!

Ummmm, no!
There's laws and there's police hired to do that.

I think the real difference, even if it is actually wrong at least in the wild wild west you had some honor or code at least.

I think you are confused. You are thinking in terms of absolutes, life is a continum, it is impossible to be one or the other as each is a mixture of both.

Can I be a welfare mamma and a working professional? How about a Democrat and member of the NRA?

The answer is yes!
I am a single mother of two boys; after my ex ran out of us I was on food stamps while I put myself through college, now I teach college classes AND I am a died in the wool democrat who hunts!

You are probablly some where in the middle.

A while ago, but not that long ago, I would have run from what you described of yourself. I have to say that I'm glad I've opened my mind a bit more. You and I would have disagreed on a lot of things, I'm sure. LOL.
I would call you ALL American and I'm very glad that you are posting here.
