There is some truth to that, but it goes much farther. As a whole people need laws because our nature is lawless. So it takes other lawless people (law makers) to impose on society laws that in some cases they don't apply to themselves to make otherds do what they should do.

If everyone complied with the laws and did the right thing, there would be no need to spy.
In times of crisis and desperation people more often than not are receptive to draconian methods of achieving what they would like to see that they normally would not even think of doing. But I am not saying that if someone is knowingly and intentionally violating the law that, that person should not be reported.

My point is though that in a society where people are encouraged to rat-out each other will not produce the result we would like to see. The problem is not the cell phone; the problem is us......we are by nature selfish, so someone texting while driving is just another example of that. Until one can get at the heart of human nature everything else that we do is just a band aid on a tumor.

thoughts_staff - Respectfully, the issue here isn't about points of view. The issue was more about off topic valueless trolling of the thread.

Back to the topic at hand. While i do agree that this law should exist there is an issue with enforcement. People do all sorts of things in their cars that they shouldn't and unfortunately, unless there's a police car on every corner watching drivers to catch them in the act the best we can probably hope for is that if an officer pulls over a driver for another infraction that they can tack on this one too if they catch it. For me it's the same for some of the woman who try to apply their makeup while driving... talk about distractions.

I wonder what would be the effect on an insurance accident claim, if any, if the responable party was phoning or texting at the time.

I would hope those kinds of things in a police report would have some affect on the process but I'm not really sure.

All i know is... if they make this a law, it better apply to the cops as well...
Cant even begin to tell you how many cops in all the states i've been in who are on the cellphone while driving also!!!
I try not to use it while driving. 18wheels is enough to manage without being distracted. If i have to call and get directions i usually try to find a place to pull over OR i already have the directions before starting the run.
Its all about trip planning

I've have people come flying past me and then 10 miles up the road, i catch up to them again... my truck only does 65mph mind you.... and yup. I'd bet the farm on it. They're on the phone and have slowed down so much that i've caught up to them again.....

A national law would be nice.
I do think some states have already enacted something though... i think NJ and CA have already started some kind of "hands free" law with the cell phone.....

Correct me if im wrong...

You know the solution to the problems that we create is not making more laws. A society that has to regulate people's lives is not a free society. One day we are going to wake up and have so many laws that you will not even be able to breathe without violating some law….it going to strangle you to death.

People just aren't using their common sense and respecting the right's of others. Obviously, they aren't being taught the importance of those things early in life.
I think the cell phone law is good and doesn't go far enough. Cell phones should be turned off when entering public buildings too.
It's a shame that people don't recognize the dangers and the irritation to others when they use their cell phones carelessly.
