We mere mortals hold extraordinary powers. We each have the ability to change somebody's life....every single day. I'm not talking about saving a life, or figuring out a plan for world peace......I'm talking about the power of a smile and kind word......and the power of a frown and negative words. Harnessing this power and understanding the extent of its effects on others is an amazing thought.....and sometimes it needs to be broken down to understand the magnitude of it all:

Imagine walking into a grocery store..a busy grocery store that is understaffed. You are in a good mood and you go and get two things that you needed and walk up front to check out. There is only one clerk on duty and the customer she is dealing with is giving her hell. This is where the power begins. When she starts ringing up your groceries she asks, "paper or plastic" in a "I don't give a shit" tone of voice and she doesn't look at you. This is the moment in time that you can change this clerks life, but not only her life, but every single customer she checks out next. Kind words and a smile will negate negative almost every time...So...you make eye contact, smile, and tell her, "I hope the day gets better for you.".......Eight words to change hundreds of lives.....THAT'S POWER!!

I said all that to say this: It may sound "fluffy" and a tad bit sentimental but I enjoy that feeling...I make it a point every single day, to change somebody's life for the better.

Debbie,
Tonyray pulled off what I could not. You are an amazing person. You mentioned that we joined at about the same time. I was immediately drawn to your words, your style, inegrity, guts, straightforward style. etc. One of the most amazing parts to me is your inner strength. What you have endured would be beyond most of us mere mortals, yet you manage it with such unshakable aplomb.Your talent with words and music absolutely reflects your inimitable style.

Know this, you are not only a good friend, but an inspiration to this old codger!

Congratulations! (and way to go Tony!)

Debbie, sometimes a person seems so "bigger than life", so amazingly powerful in their presence and so able to communicate a sense that everything will be alright....You, my dear are that person. Whether blogging or chatting with someone here, or putting your responses to questions we all ponder or struggle with, you show great warmth and caring and self-knowledge....so we not only believe you, but trust you implicitly. Glad to see a most-deserved person on this humble list.
