When I was growing up, there were certain times that families would get together and watch some T.V. together.
Those days are long gone except perhaps for a movie or a sports event.
What caused that decline ?
Can we ever get it back ?

Nowadays almost every channel has some form of sex, violence or drugs. I dont think I would feel comfortable watching anything on TV with my family!

I still love to watch television with my parents. There are still some very interesting shows and programmes - or at least here in Bulgaria, I don't know what your situation over there is.

Does the "state " monitor your T.V. viewing as far as content.?

I think one of the aims of 'American Idol' was to bring back this concept, sort of the old Ed Sullivan concept, a variety show of sorts, with something for everybody, where all could sit down and watch together.
In cultural terms, we've become a very fragmented society, with all of us being marketed to separately. I'm not entirely certain that this concept will predominate again like it did in the past...

You are most likely right although I wish you weren`t. Bring back the `good old days `.

Were I able to cross my arms, and blink hard, and all of a sudden, find myself in the world of my childhood, I would. If I could do that and find myself in the arms of the gloriously beautiful woman who became famous for crossing her arms and blinking, I'd do that, too, in a heartbeat.
I think, though, that we'd find that the ills that now afflict our society afflicted it then- in a not so technologically advanced fashion. Nothing has really changed, at the core, it's just that things go so much faster now...
It's the more carefree world of the past that we so long for. The world of my dad picking up five year old me in his car and going someplace, and not having a single care in the world. TV reflected that, didn't it?
