I know Im probably in the minority here (A Scot being a minority? Surely not! ;p lol), but I used to cycle a lot in the UK rather than drive. More for transport than health reasons. The downside was the weather (of course), the pollution from breathing in all those exhaust fumes, and the amount of bad, even dangerous drivers, who seemed to want to kill you!
I had a few accidents with cars and a bus at different times but thanfully Im still here to tell the tale.
Was just wondering what other peoples views and experiences have been/ are of cycling in a car dominated world?

I don't know how to ride a bike (without training wheels).
*Joie muses to herself* Maybe this post belongs to the embarrassing moments thread or something...

I was a roadie for a while. I avoided busy surface streets like the plague. It was always wide open roads like PCH or seldom-used canyon roads for me. Too many stories of cyclists getting killed or hurt made my transition to Mountain Biking that much easier.

I don't appreciate when the bikers peddle a third of the way into the traffice lane. Where I live we have gone to greatexpense and time to provide a paved, smooth and well maintained bike path that runs the 122 miles of the island chain.
Still bikers ride right out in the traffic, sometimes the path is less that 8 feet from the edge of where they are riding.
Every group hs it's bad apples and down here those are the nemesis to the bikers who want fair treatment
