I'm agnostic and wasn't brought up with any religion. I'm in my 40s, haven't found one yet and somehow don't think I will.

Nope, just come to the Bible belt of America. Nebraska to be exact. Its one of the most conservative denominations you'll find. No women pastors, or lay readers. Homosexuality is strictly forbidden, I was told not to listen to "worldy" music, or watch "worldy" movies, or read "worldy books". All the cool shit, I was told to stay away from ;).

its seems a majority of you were some form of Cathloic. now the question is why are Cathloics the most likely to turn to atheism?

When I was little I had the "Church of Christ" and the "Methodist" shoved down my throat.
It made me just not care.......

I had the whole Catholicism thing shoved down mine... big turn off. Needless to say, me being non-religious doesn't sit well with the rest of the family... oh well.

it seems that the more our families try and push religion on us the more likely we are to reject it.

Because the Catlick religion is probably the most difficult for the logical mind to accept.

BTW... I'm not an atheist. I believe in God, I just don't believe in religion. That's why I hang out in the spirituality section.
presbyterian because of my parental indoctrination. then atheist. then finally came to my senses and decided god is unknowable either way. now agnostic.
I'm always curious to learn how an agnostic arrives at the conclusion that God is unknowable. I recognize the truth of the statement, of course. I just wonder what logical process an agnostic uses to arrive at their conclusion.

I believe that this logically is saying that God is irrelevant. Assuming god is unknowable. The reason this would be true is that there would exist no real world evidence for god. Either god does not exist or chooses to never make his existence known. In either case, an unknowable god is an irrelevant god

That's sensible.

I'm only an atheists part time, the other part of the time I'm agnostic. It depends on the day, or it may depend on what you mean by "God". LOL
I was raised in a strict, conservative, traditional, christian church. The Church of Christ. The one without the piano. Now I belong to a Unitarian Church.

If you would, define what you believe God to be. What kind of God do you believe in? Why do you believe in such a diety? Furthermore, what has lead you to believe that it exists. Not accusing, not mocking you, just wondering what it is you believe.

After attending the Church of Christ, it took me 20 years to step foot in another church. Now I attend a Unitarian Church and feel right at home!

I was a Methodist but now I am agnostic.
I also believe that religion is something to keep people busy and that their "sacred texts" may just be something that someone made up, I mean, where is the proof that the people really did exist?

I don't know that God exist. I'm comfortable with not knowing. And if a God does exist, I don't believe he's a personal God.
I believe in good and evil....I've seen good and evil.
I hope I answered your question.

I just wonder what logical process an agnostic uses to arrive at their conclusion. My enlightenment began, when I started to questioning, how could a invisible being have a conversation with a serpent. My mental processing, couldn't accept invisible being,or serpent talking to another human-being.

I wasn't raised in a religion, have never been baptised, etc..
The closest I've ever come to being a part of a religion was when I was engaged to a Catholic years ago. I knew the church would never allow us to marry unless I became Catholic, which I was not happy about. Ultimately, it didn't matter, because they wouldn't marry us anyway.
Well..there was also a period of time where I had to live with my aunt and she not only forced me to go to church, but forced me to take communion. One of the worst moments of my life.
I've never been able to -or felt the desire to- buy into any of it, so I suppose I've been Atheist since birth.

We all are Atheist at birth, then comes the dogma indoctrination. Most people will not, can not, break the cycle of religious beliefs.I;am comfortable with my decision to step away from faith believing.
