My heart aches for you......I know how hard it is. My last dog was 17.
Just think what great doggie lives they had because of you!!!!

Wow. You had one till 17? That must have been REAL hard. I had Snoop for 10 and a half yrs. That's the longest I was ever able to keep a dog due to my mom moving so much when I was younger. I got him from the love of my life. Snoop's death tore me up. It still does. It's like the heartache never goes away. The other one I got hoping I could fill the void. (It kinda worked. He was so precious) and that ended badly too. I love animals so much but I hate that they have to die.

Me too....but I just tell myself in the beginning that it would be worse for them to outlive me. It's just part of being a good pet parent.
The first time I went to the grocery store and started down the dog food aisle I had to leave the store. Comming home was hard when there was no one to greet me. That's when I really felt empty and alone.
Now I have 3 more big ones........keeps me on my toes, I run a tight ship.....LOL

Awwww, so glad you have more babies. I wish I could. I have two cats and I love them dearly, but it's just not the same. I miss how my Snoop...well actually Dakota too, would come jump on my lap when I was sad and lick my tears. Funny, cuz I know they just liked the salt..lol, but there really was so much more to it than that. They knew. They knew when I needed them.

We've had to put down two springer spaniels, 15 and 11 years old. Now we have our older lab at 11 and not doing well. He doesn't hunt anymore, and he just hangs out as much as possible. Lots of arthritis, which he takes meds for. He likes coming into the house and spending the afternoon sleeping in the warm house.
Our other springer is 10, and he thinks he's five. He is the babysitter for our newest baby, our yellow lab named Gunner. He is adorable and has such a big heart. He bounces into the house and grabs my slipper, his game with me. I have to trade his ball for it, and he loves to pretend that he doesn't see me with the ball. My husband took Gunner down to see a hunting trainer last week, and the guy was VERY impressed wth him. My husband will begin training him in a month or so, after he gets fixed.
I could not live without a dog in my life. I've had one for as long as I can remember.

You must be an awesome mama to your babies. They are very lucky. Sounds like they all have had great lives. Sorry about your other dogs. It hurts, I know.

Well, we always have two dogs, because we both were fulltime workers for so many years. I am now part time, but I still believe in the two-dog concept. Right now we have THREE dogs. We aren't sure how much longer the older lab will be around, and my husband wants the pup trained and ready to hunt. He doesn't take the springer out hunting. He is a great hunter, but he gets so excited that he barks at my husband, wanting him to bring up a pheasant. The other hunters don't like that much. :)
Actually, I am second on the dogs' list of favorites. My husband feeds them and takes them hunting, and I am just the hugger. They do like that too, of course, but the food wins over the hugs every time. ;)

I know, you can never ever replace the dogs you had before but the next one always helps ease the pain.

I was just thinking how much it sucks to miss my boys. You never know what a true friend is really till you have a dog. If only some people realized just how special they are and how much they only want to be loved. They will do anything for you. I sit here and cry because even when I had no one else my dogs have always been there. Licking my tears and making me smile. Lord do I miss them:(

I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you not getting another ?
With so many lovable pooches out there I'm sure one will steal your heart, perhaps even two.

I wish:( I don't really have my own place so therefore I can't have one. It breaks my heart because I would have another dog in a second if I could. They bring my sad soul so much joy.

BTW Temp, I forgot to mention that if I am ever (Lord willing) to get another dog I will most certainly adopt one from a shelter which I would encourage anyone out there that reads this and is planning on getting a dog to do. So many die every day:( I know you adopted and I think that is wonderful:)

I'm so very sorry for you, Snoops. I have lost so many loved pets in my lifetime, I know well the sadness. Each time your heart breaks a bit more.
Sorry for all the rest of you too.
But Bless you for having given good lives and happy years to God's creatures.
Savour the memories!
