hangover hobby kit by Erika Forland
I am the water.
I.
She was the alcohol
(moving you too fast)
now you’re in the moment
shy boy, your confidence is back.
You put her to your lips
and gulped,
(took her in too quickly)
the warmth soothed your
aching heart.
Never did you laugh as hard
as with her pumping
through your veins,
Everything you said was right.
She entices you to take
another shot,
“down the hatch!”
(Oh joyful, joyful)
Shy boy, your confidence is back.
Life moves fast and slow,
blurred vision,
you’ve got a sly grin
on your baby face.
What makes the world spin round?
“It’s her,” you say.
II.
Your energy is weaned
She takes all your efforts
and she rocks you to sleep,
as you lay so quietly
she wears from your body,
sleeping soundly in
dreams of her while
the moon pokes its slender fingers
through the blinds,
caressing your head
as the night turns to
oblivion.
III.
She’s gone,
you’re left with your
head spinning,
weak and clammy,
a dull pain hits your
stomach and soon
your heart,
Left lifeless and bitter
She was just a temporary
fix.
“how can she leave me like this?”
IV.
When you return
(quiet, tired, and distant)
I’ll be at your bedside.
I am the water
(slow and steady)
I’ll bring the life back
to your withering body.
I am just the water.
