So this being my first blog.  I think I'll just write about my job.  Thats kinda the point of my blog , I have to write about my work because I can't talk too much to everyday people about it. It can be gross and very sad. Most people stop me before I'm finished talking because they cannot take anymore or its just too hard to believe that these things happen in real life not just on TV. Also you must understand a certain odd sense of humor comes along with EMS it can be very sick and twisted and sometimes only WE laugh.  But thats how we survive you see.  Otherwise we would be cryin' and depressed all the time and we wouldn't be able to do our jobs and then 911 would just be no good right ??  Just so you know we are everywhere. Paramedics and EMT's are normal people just like you !! We do all the same stuff that normal people do . We are married , we have kids and we don't make money hand over fist . If you ask anyone we are not in this line of work for the money !! We DO cry after tough , crappy calls. We tend to hide it from our co-workers though because we don't want protection from them.  We will only talk about calls when WE are ready. Most EMS people won't talk about work unless you ask them directly. When we are off duty , we tend to not wear clothes that say anything about EMS . We like to fly below the radar most of the time.  Every once in a while you'll see the show off's who have every piece of EMS decals and fire fighter crap on their cars, alls these people want it a pat on the back and they want to be the hero. I figure they want a prize or something for being a EMT/Firefighter. I Myself don't have any of that because I just don't want to come off conceited.   Please don't get me wrong I adore my job, I love it !! It is great and I get enough attention when I am on duty . We are always being watched by the public when we work , its nice when I am not at work to just be unnoticed sometimes. Today I am at work and its so far slow we've only had one 911 and it ended up being a false alarm , some old guy sleeping in his car.  I wish the person who called 911 would go up to the window and knock on it and just ATTEMPT to awaken the person !! But some people are afraid of the whole idea of the person NOT waking up I guess. Oh well .  I work in washington . I don't want to say where just for identifying protection. I work for a very busy ambulance company. I am a EMT. I am 29 yrs old. I have two children and a husband. My job and I have a bit of a love hate relationship. I love it when I can see the difference I made in someones life wether its saving their family member from dying of a heart attack or showing up for someone who's about to end it all with a gun shot to the head and we talk them out of it. I hate my job when I am woke up at 3am for a whining cryin' person who's had the same pain for 3 weeks and NOW at 3am can't take it anymore. I just can't figure out why they couldn't go to the doctor or to the ER at some point in the last 3 weeks !! I just don't see the emergency, BUT hey its our job right ? I also hate it when I see abuse of kids and/or elderly. I feel such anger and disgust I can barely hold it together. However we have to behave in a professional manner at ALL TIMES !! No crying , no cussing, no hitting no matter what. We cannot share OUR thoughts at moments like that.  ANyways I have to go right now so I write again soon.
