 Ambulance Drivers..........
So I keep wondering why in the hell people ask me over and over " so how long does it take to be an ambulance driver ? "  I DON'T JUST DRIVE THE AMBULANCE !!!! thats what I feel like screaming back at them.  The person you see driving the ambulance is the same person that well be bustin' their ass in the back of the rig to save your life. You cannot go to school to JUST drive the ambulance, it doesn't exsist. You have to know how to do it all. EMT's are to paramedic's what nurse's are to doctor's. We do all the work while the medic's make the desicions.  I realize people don't know this, but they could ask .  The person you see driving has a partner and with that partner they have to alternate every other transport. One drive's and then on the next call that person will have to work on the patient in the back. I feel like sometimes people completely underestimate EMT's they have know idea what we do.  THere's a saying here at work and it goes something like this " Paramedic's walk on water........ because there's a bunch on EMT's holding them up."  And thats the truth. We do everything up to starting IV's and pushing drugs.  We do the chest compressions , we breathe for you, we run the machines, we draw up the drugs for the medic to push, we lift you ,we carry you, we take care of grandma's busted hip, we spilnt your broken legs & arms,we hold you brians in when they're fallin' out, we clean up the blood, feces, urine and vomit you produce. Medic's don't do any of these things. Medic's DON'T drive the ambulance.  The medic is always the passenger.  So just so ya know the next you see the driver of the ambulance thats not all they do. They do a whole lot more than just drive.

~ Cheers ~

Some people are just that dense, it's quite sad.

Point of contention, MY. I was a medic for 10 years and I don't mind telling you that me and my EMT were PARTNERS. Unfortunately, however, it would be the medic, more often than not, walking into a courtroom to explain just what the hell went wrong. So, that's pretty much why I insisted that things would be done my way; never had any problems with my EMT partners agreeing with me, either. And we worked together on every run. I'm not in EMS anymore, but I assure you that in 10 years on the trucks, I got my fair share of blood, puke, pee, poo, cspine fluid, and every other bodily substance imagineable on me. Yes, medics are pretty much helpless without the right equipment and an EMT who knows their ass from their armpit, so obviously, we don't all think we walk on water. And I can't count the times I was called an "ambulance driver" myself.
