Tuesday, 7/29, 9:08am CDT - Here I am at work. Obviously, if I am blogging that pretty much means that I'm not working at the moment. For those of you that have never worked a corporate job, be thankful. This is not the life that I thought I would be living when I was a teenager. But then again, all I was really doing as a teen was partying, drinking and hooking up. I never really gave much thought to the future.
Well, fast forward to today. I'm no longer a teen and everyday I follow the same schedule:
- wake up.
- get ready for work.
- drive to work and hope I don't snap like a twig and beat the tar out of someone. Out here in North Texas, people don't know how to drive. Its not like Cali where theres just a lot of traffic. Out here in BFE, people drive like they don't know what a steering wheel is for.
- get to my desk.
- work (I am a business systems analyst).
- go home.
- hang out with my girlfriend and son.
- play video games if I have time.
- go to sleep.
Then the process starts over the next day. You see, when I was younger and I'd sit and actually think of the person I wanted to be, I thought my schedule would be something like this:
- wake up.
- drive to the ice hockey rink.
- practice.
- drive home and rest.
- drive to the rink for game time.
- play against another NHL team.
- go home after winning game.
- hang out with the girlfriend and kid before I have to take a flight to another city.
I wanted to be a professional hockey player. I was very good too. Unfortunately, things in life don't pan out the way you want it too. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but more often then not, its usually a disappointment.
So here I am, working for a mortgage banking firm handling systems development for the Foreclosure division.
I have to act politically correct, and say "yes sir, I'll get right on that".
Sometimes I wanna just say "why don't you take your keyboard, turn it sideways, and shove it".
The moral of this story is that life cannot be predicted, which is why this category is called the Chaos Theory. There are people in this world who take action, and do something with their lives. But then something bad happens, like they get into an accident or something, and suddenly the life that they worked so hard to build and be happy about is gone.
Then, there are those who don't do anything. Lazy people who just sit around and don't plan anything out or do anything with themselves. But life decides to give them the winning lottery ticket and they get to live the good life.
The point is, you never know whats gonna happen. If you work hard or even if you play hard, there is no guarantee that you will get the life you wanted or dreamed about.
I dreamed of being a pro hockey player. I worked hard, I certainly played hard. I did everything the coaches and scouts told me to do.
And what was the result of all that? Well, I'm sitting here in a cubicle blogging about it, and not living the dream.
