Purpose of this group
The summer has flown by and already the school shopping and planning has begun. Let's enjoy this month of August/September 2008 and savor every relaxing moment of sipping iced tea on the porch. But as we relax, we most likely have a calendar or time management notebook in hand. While we mark in the upcoming dates and activities, why not plan for the time we want to spend reading God's Word in this next year. Chances are, if we don't plan, it just won't happen in the whirl of things.
Those of us who spend time blogging, by nature enjoy sharing our thoughts with other people. Why not share entries from our devotional journals. If God has blessed you today with a verse or a passage of Scripture, or a quote from a devotional book, why not share it with the rest of us.
Some of us may be reading a through the Bible in a year program, or some other plan, and we will all be in different places, but we should all have something we can share. It doesn't have to be profound because God's Word is what will speak to our hearts. I like to call it "fresh bread."
Just post your "fresh bread" in any of the comment spaces. It is ok to start a new train of thought or discuss what others have shared. We will be looking forward to hearing from you.

I hope you will share with us MyJourneyinHim.
Unfortunatly the members cannot do a regular post (except me of course) so we will just use the comment section for posts.
Some of the members on my Vox site are reading the book of Genesis between now and Thanksgiving. Genesis has about 50 chapters, so that should be a fairly leisurely read. I am going to post a devotion each week on Genesis during that time. So if anyone here would like to join me in reading Genesis, come along. But whatever you are reading - just share it with us. :)

So glad to have you join us Sheryl. I stopped by your blog and bookmarked it. I hope each of you will bookmark our group so that others will know about it.
Today I posted the first of my devotions on Genesis. For those of you who want to read through Genesis, it has 50 chapters and I will be posting from now until Thanksgiving on this book. My devotions will be from selected passages as we read through.
I hope some of you will add insights that you get from Genesis as well as whatever you are reading in personal devotions. I would like to emphasize personal application of Scripture to our lives, rather than discussion of doctrinal viewpoint, since we are from many different backgrounds.
That is not to say we should avoid any teaching in Scripture - just to avoid debate on the fine points of in-house doctrinal differences among believers. I am looking forward to your imput.

Hi Charlotte, I have just returned from a weekend in Donegal at our cottage there. I had taken two wonderful, elderly Christian friends with me, but was distressed by the fact I was suffering from worsening toothache which made it hard to be as cheerful as I would have liked. They prayed over me and then, yesterday morning, I awoke to the most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen stretching out of the sea and over the hills on the other side. I then read my notes which said 'In times of testing you discover how faithful God is'. It went on to say 'God knows what you can handle and will make a way so you can exit this season stronger, so stick to the plan.' Shortly after my daughter rang to say a friend of theirs, a dentist, had agreed to see me this morning, a bank holiday. I slept well and when I got there early, the dentist was another blessing to me with his easy way which put me at ease. I had an infection and needed anti biotics which explained why I did not feel good. The pain has gone and I am appreciating everything around me, even though it is another wet morning. I just keep thinking of that rainbow, my faithful friends' prayers and the answers I have received. It also made another problems we have been dealing with seem more manageable, so praise God for his word and his promises. Amen

Thank you for sharing this. One morning after the San Diego fires which just missed us, I walked out on our back porch and saw a rainbow streching across the valley below and it gave the appearance of ending behind a tree at the bottom of our property. I know just how you felt. A reminder of God's presence with us through it all! It's a good thing you got on those antibiotics, tooth infections are serious. Thanks again for sharing this encouraging post.

I was happy to check through the blog and find comments from many of you. Two things happened that have prevented me from realizing that there were comments. The notice from Thoughts.com by e-mail had gone into my junk mail folder. Also the icon at the top was not there to tell me where the comments were, so I just spent and hour scrolling down through the posts to find them. Anyway, I marked it "not junk" and hopefully Thoughts will get the comment gliche figured out. Pray for them.
Charlotte

On Friday of last week I had to take my aged aunt to hospital to have a new hearing aid fitted. In the waiting room with us was a young woman with her little boy in a push chair and her mother beside her. As we had to wait for a while we began to talk to each other. My son who was with me to help push my aunt enquired about her little boy. We learnt that he had been born at 26 weeks, was profoundly deaf along with a lot of other problems. Her other son who was 5 and a half was autistic and her days often began at 5 a.m. and ended at midnight. She began to tell my son about how her elder boy could read and write from an early age and he commended her patience and assured her of his admiration. The mother who was an invaluable help also had her own problems as her husband carried the pneumonia bug and was in and out of hospital. All we gave that young woman was time, but they were reluctant to leave the room even after her little boy had been seen. I was so proud of my son for the gentle way he spoke to these people but we both said last night how much they had appreciated our interest. If we could all just take a little time for someone each day I believe we could make such a difference. My son is not a Christian (yet) but I thank God that he has given him such a gift. Isn't it amazing how he reveals himself each day in a hundred ways.

I am sure your son has inherited that gift from you. I will pray that he will come to know Christ in a personal way, how greatly the Father appreciates the gift of caring and will use it for His purpose in your son's life.

OK now, I just bumped this purpose statement up to the top. It seems like things have slowed down a little. So I want to invite you again to post the "fresh bread" from your devotional reading somewhere in our group blog. It has to be done in the comment section of course, so it is ok if you change the subject from the original post. I am still posting from Genesis from now through the holiday season. Some of you might like to do some reading in that book and share your insights. But wherever you are reading, we want to hear from you. It doesn't have to be profound, just maybe a verse or two with your take on it. Happy reading!
