I have noticed many people critisize this style of writing. Particularly those that write as a means of earning money. I am not going to speak for all writers. I can't do that. However, I am going to speak on my own behalf. Who the hell do people think they are? It's true fanfiction can't bring in an income. Anyone that writes it, myself included, are well aware of this fact. Nevertheless, this type of writing is meant purely for fun.
As for myself, I use it as therapy. Often, if I am blocked on my regular writing I turn to fanfiction. I don't have to concentrate on forming characters because those have already been supplied by others. This leaves my mind free to explore various plots and actually make them work. Thus, getting my creative engin going again.
My own mother told me she was sick of me working on fanfiction because it did me no good. How would she like it if I told her to stop working crossword puzzles, as the useless facts they offer in their answers won't do her any good? She likes to sit and play computer games at night and relax. Now I ask you people, how do stupid computer games help a person in life? It's simple. They don't. They numb your brain, killing off precious cells within. Maybe she should just give that up.
I could possibly be wandering away from the original topic, but my point is the same nevertheless. Fanfiction is a style of writing. Perhaps, it's not the traditional style. It's definately not something everyone likes. However, for those people, I just want to say one thing. Stop telling the rest of us what to enjoy. We are quite able to make choices on our own.
Okay. I've ranted and raved long enough. I'm starting to sound like one of my boyfriends friends. I am going to stop now and return you to your regularly scheduled days. By all.

YaY! someone agrees. finally. I'm sick and tired of people telling that fanfiction is a waste of time. I love it. It helps me keep my writing skills developed while I'm not in school or working of another writing.
