 Putting yourself First
I've come to realise that in life, noone is more interested in you than yourself. Noone has any real obligation to please you unless that person has something to gain from making you happy e.g make your wife happy, you're happy too. I know its a gloomy perspective but if we all take that attitude then we will stop expecting others to make us happy; and if they do then whoopie, bonus!

I spent many years blaming one person or the other for my unhappiness (ex being the main candidate). Only when I was away from him did I start taking reaponsibility for my (un) happiness. I realised that I was placing too heavy an obligation on him to make me happy; I should know what I want, what will make me happy and how I will achieve it. I used to get so frustrated when he'd fail to identify 'simple things' that would please me. I would fly into a rage everytime he went out and left me at home and I thought that he was selfish for being happy when he could see how miserable I was.

So next time you're angry and feeling dejected, get up and do something for yourself. Go out, have a good time but most importantly don't do it to 'show' the other person that you can be happy, go out and BE happy!
