 Beatitude, Our To-Be Attitudes
Matthew 5:1-12a
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on the side of a mountain and sat down. Jesus' disciples gathered around Him, and He taught them:

_it was a normal day for Jesus, not until a large crowd gathered and mobbed the place where He was. maybe it was a partly dim sunny morning when Jesus led the mob to a mount where they could not disturbed the "normal" days of those who are not interested. the Sermon on the Mount, if not the most signifcant is the most meaningful sermon, for me, Jesus had taught His followers and those who will follow Him. meaningful because in these one-stand-speak, Jesus put a lot of meaning to our Christian duties and responsibilities while being here on earth.

God blesses those people who depend only on Him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!

_first on the To-Be Attitude was to depend solely on Him. often our problem when we have a problem is that we deny to ourselves that we cannot do it apart form God. we often try to solve and work things out on our own until it exhausts us and drain us all our power. God do not want us to act like that. i believe He said it first to trust in Him because without "trust", we can't just go on with our Christian life. we are just humans. we all have weaknesses and God is so sufficient for that weakness. He want us to run to Him, present ourselves and submit to Him. He want us to realise our weaknesses, admit it and surrender it to Him. He want to extend His hand, help us rise and get on our feet. we cannot be a part of His kingdom, if we are too proud to be like Him.

God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort!

_there is no comfort where there is no grief. grief will not exist without comfort by its side. we all knew how tiring and hurtful it is to grieve, mourn and be sorrowful. God exactly understands how we feel. He's been there. not only he knows but He cares! God cares a lot about us. He can heal our pains, all our pains. He promised comfort, and He means what He promised! cry. He is not too busy not to hear your tears. pray. He is not deaf not to hear every unsaid and unexpressed words. trust. He is never occupied not to hear your faith. He promised that there'll be comfort, then there will be comfort!

God blesses those people who are humble. The earth will belong to them!

_meekness is not a weakness! instead it is the humble gentle strength to submit and obey. it the opposite of being arrogant and hardheaded. it is a willful submission to Someone who is in authority. meekness is not being not in control but trusting the One who is really in control. humility is not being swayed to deny your principles but standing firm to what you believe in in a "Christly" manner. meekness, humility and submissiveness leads to obedience. and obedience pleases God while disobedience produces sin and eventually death. he who obeys is meek, not weak, will receive the blessings that the earth produces.

God blesses those people who want to obey Him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want!

_when we chose to do God's will, instead of worrying about how we will live, God will not only meet our needs but will fulfill our wants. isn't it a wonderful promise? not only that we will have food, shelter and clothing but have as much and many more of these! that is if we obey. yes, obedience leads to abundance. He said what He meant and He meant what He said. in any translation of the Bible, the thought is "if we do His will, He will do our will according to His." when God is the desire of your heart, He will give you more than your heart could desire. that is a word from God. and i say, "God blesses those who claims and does what He has said, they'll have the fulfillment of it."

God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy!

_God shows mercy when He grants us our requests we do not deserve to receive. it is mercy that enables us to enjoy what we do not deserve to enjoy and it is grace that exempts us from pains that our actions caused us. mercy is receiving the goods when we do not deserve to recieve them while grace the not receiving the bads that we deserve. God has been so merciful to us, would it then be nice if we practice being merciful too? it is like love, that the more you gave away, the more multiplied it comes back. being merciful reflects a God-like attitude in us. it shines and everyone will see it. we must share same mercy to everyone, friends and enemies alike, so God will not end His mercy showering blessings on us.

God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see Him!

_our life at its longest is short, very short. sooner or later, we will all face eternity and it will either on heaven or hell. whatever our life was on earth, the selection whether to be on life on death will be based on our hearts. what our heart is like when we live. it is said, only those pure heart will see God. not only see but live with Him long as eternity would allow. what a joy it will be to sing, dance and live forever, if there is forever, with the Maker who not only made us alive but loves us all from the day we first breathe and until our last breathe is due. the joy of heaven in only for those whose heart is pure and is upright for God.

God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called His children!

_as Christians, we are to make peace and not rage war and cause division. our Father is a God of peace, it will be just right for us to make peace though it is really harder to do than to spark a fire of anger and make them angry. it is not fun for us to go against how normally a person would go away and stay away from fights. neither it is our duty to rumble and get bruised to fight for what we believe but be calm and let the fire burn hot. soon it will pass then that is our time to throw water and fully declare "Fire Out" by reconciling two parties into agreement. a huge title is promised to peacemakers, Child of God. it is so comforting for you to bear a title, maybe it is like an assurance that you will be with God, for no good father will let his child be in pain.

God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven.

_when we are persecuted for doing right, we normally get sad and ask God why does this happen when all we think about it "doing what is right." let me raise two different concepts that are somehow being interchanged and is used as synonyms, one is "right thing done the right way", the other is "the right thing done the appropriate way." these two are very different terms often seen as one. the first, "right thing done the right way" is a very direct, harsh and is often inconsiderate. it does not care what is the situation or what had happened, the main focus is to do to the right thing the way it should be done. unlike the latter, "the right thing done the appropriate way", which is a lot more friendly. it assesses first what happened and thinks of a nice way to introduce what is right. it balances the "right thing" to the "wrong done" to minimize the friction and advise what the "right thing" to do. both are not easy to do, both will have oppositions and sometimes these oppositions are hurtful. when they persecute us, three right things we can do, one is to pray for them. Saul, the Oppressor became Paul, the Apostle not because of crying and murmuring but of the prayer that the early believers did. second is to stand firm. sometimes, these attacks are just to test how firm we stand on our faith. third is rejoice. yeah, smile for what we are doing is bearing fruits now. they won't throw sticks to bring us down if our labor remains unnoticed. thank God because finally, they are seeing what good we are doing.

_Jesus ended the Beatitude by raising His voice, i assume that anyone will hear a promise more promising than any other promises are, at least for me.

God will bless you when people insult you, mistreat you,
and tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of Me.
Be happy and excited!
You will have a great reward in heaven.
