Rap Music: Is there more to it?
Currently I am doing a research paper on the effect rap music has on adolescents and kids. How the words of the songs influence their thoughts and behavior. I think that they should control the lyrics or the listeners. I have found research that shows some lyrics make women/girls have lower self-image of their selves. It also does increase violence. I mean I know there is a bunch of good rap music with positive rap music but is that enough to out weigh the bad? It may seem like it does not make that big of a difference that the kids have self-control of their own thought and how they act. Kids and teenagers will almost always go with the crown or act like their favorite actor/actress or singers just for they can be “cool”. This is just my opinion which this subject of rap music could have several views which makes everybody have their own opinion. I do believe some rap music is good. But there is to much bad lyrics out there mostly with rap that again can influence the thoughts and behaviors of how the listeners act. Please comment on this on what your views are on the issue of rap music. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

If you read it again everybody is entitled to their own opinion. THis is my views. People are free to do as they please but I don't think it is right if it causes them harm or others.

There are some great rap songs out there that tell someones struggle and hard time in their life. But then again some of the songs are pointless and contain alot of bad lyrics that do effect the youth.

Well...I have listened to rap my entire life, in fact, until recently that was the only kind of music I would listen to...I choose to listen to more of the hardcore rap, just my personal preference, I grew up in a rough neighborhood, I was raised on the eastside of Detroit, so much of what they were rapping about, I was living. Now, that brings me to this, I was not influenced to do the bad things that I was listening to in these songs, even though I had access to the alcohol, drugs, guns and everything else imaginable. So I honestly think that it depends on the way that you were raised...even though I grew up surrounded by negativity, that was not my outcome...my mother taught me to do better and want better for myself...therefore I worked hard to get myself out of the hood...for me that same rap music that everyone looks down on helped me to realize the things I wanted to get away from...it also keeps me grounded in realizing where I came from and how far Ive gotten...for that Im greatful. I think that besides the message thats always heard, the negativity and what not, there is an underlining message of triumph and overcoming adversity. But until you hear these songs for what they are, a plea, a cry for help from those forgotten, over looked, or otherwise not cared about, then u cant truly appreciate the art behind it...the story telling, take it for what it is, a glimpse into a world that many have never seen, the hell that happens to be some peoples lives...including my own.
