WHEN: November 19 (3.5 hours) – Mastery Algebra CP & 10th
grade
WHAT: Student took a test in all three classes today. My teacher walked around the classroom. She is not allowed to provide assistance
because it is a district-made, standardized test. She explained to me that she walks around the
classroom because she learned that statistics prove students perform better on
tests when the teacher walks around the classroom. This keeps the students on task, discouraging
them from daydreaming or distracting others.
She noticed improvement in her classes last year when she started doing
this half way through the year.
SO WHAT: I thought
this was an excellent point. As I looked
around at all of the students taking their tests, they all seemed very much on
task. I also liked that my teacher has
been teaching for so long, but she’s still willing to try new things that she
feels will benefit her students. She is
retiring in May and she is still trying to improve her methods of teaching.
NOW WHAT: I am
going to do my best to do the same when I become a teacher. I am going to try my hardest to always be
looking for new ideas to add on to what I have already learned this year in Dr.
Manizade and Dr. Gillis’s classes. I
have learned many good strategies throughout this semester, but I know there
are many more out there for me to explore.
