 Jane Austen
When I first had to read Pride and Prejudice(abridged) I hadn't liked it much but later when I read the unabridged version, I fell completely in love with it. It was one of the coolest romance novels without any umm.. well it was very clean. And I hate how people ar trying to ruin this element with their sequels which completely miss the very essence of the original novel.

I also loved the 1980's BBC mini series of P&P, which absolutely perfect except that Wikham was not very handsome. Mr. Collins, Mr. Darcy, Mrs. Bennet, Mary, Lydia, Lady Catherine, Charlotte were alll so perfect. Elizabeth was nice too but others were nicer. I hated Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy as.. i don't know.. he always looked kind of dowdy or whatever. And as for the Kiera Knightley movie.. it was sooo not good.

So P&P was great, but then I read Emma. It was WOW. Actually I liked it better cuz it was more closer to reality than any other Austen book. And Emm was a very likeable character, with all her faults etc. Mr Knightley, although not 'the' hero, was also a natural character. They both were more believable than Elizabeth and Darcy anyway.

The rest of the books are well okay. Not too cool.

I LOVE Jane Austen.
Pride and Prejudice is my sentimental favorite but you are right. Emma is better written.
The Kira Knightly version of P&P is my favorite movie.
