20-year-old full-time NSman dies while doing chin-ups in camp
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/vi ew/379403/1/.html

then this

NSman who died had not submitted medical certificate
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/vi ew/379828/1/.html

Story goes like this, if u'r too lazy
First page, NS man dies while performing I quote, non-strenuous exercise. In this case, it was chin-ups, where the individual is required to make use of his arm muscles while attempting to lift his own body in an upward motion.
Second page, with a headline so attractive, informs the public that the said NS man was initially issued with a 2 day medical leave, which he failed to submit to the camp medical centre.

Simply put, the media seems to be portraying the image that PTE Foo kind of deserved it a he didn't inform his superiors of his prior medical condition.

NOT!

Read on, the article mentions that the medical certificate was awarded due to "sprains and strains of the knee and leg", which to me, has no link to the incident where he collapsed while performing chin-ups. Unless of course, the pain on his knee was so unbearable while performing the upper body exercise that he fainted and passed away.

This probably isn't my first rant at the local news provider. It's baffling how CNA manages to con people into beliveing their news are anything near newsworthy.
