In complete sentences
Who needs them?
Maybe you
In your mindless thought
Your thoughtless frenzy
Your frenzied mind.
I don’t need rules
Did it ever occur to you
That rules
Are just excuses
To disguise your
Thoughtless frenzy
In purposeful calm?
To make up for the fact
That you cannot
Express yourself?
Why are you looking
At me that way?
Do you think—
Oh, I see
You think I’m crazy
No, I’m not crazy
It’s just that I
Think my own way
I don’t form my thoughts
According to your rules
I don’t need Thought Police
Telling me how to go about
My poetry
Do you?
Or should I say,
For the sake of clarity,
Do you need Thought Police
Telling you how
To go about your poetry?
I’m sorry that you can’t see
A way to make
Your thoughts your own
I’m sorry
Subjects and verbs
Create marvelous illusions—
But don’t forget to think.
