| my teaching career is over before it started

The other day I was telling the girls I would be picking them up from school in first grade. Grace said, "you'll always pick us up from school."
So much for my teaching career. Although of course as six year olds they state the obvious: "except when you're sick. Then Mommy or Daddy will pick us up." And except when Tom Petty is in concert in Dallas. I'm missing their second day of school.
But wait, there's more. The other day Anna was so happy helping me with laundry that she was giggling. She gets into these modes where she's like, "what else can I do?" She learned how to completely strip her bed and add soap to the washer and close the dryer door completely.
The other day I was playing a board game with Grace (I can't wait until they're old enough for Dutch Blitz) and afterwards she shook my hand and said "good game, Beth."
In the Spring I took care of a little boy named Thomas, and I watched him some this week, after not seeing him for 6 weeks or so. Not only was he still comfortable with me, when I was putting him down for his nap he gave me an eskimo kiss! He's not a real snuggly guy so it was even more special. |
