 Eng 96 - Blog 2
for the past 2 semesters now, i've been working full-time and going to school full-time. its hard at times. im always tired at school. last semester, work pretty much took over and i slaceked in school. its tough because this is my third time taking english 96 already. and its not because im not good in english. i tend to slck off in the english subject whether its not doing the essays or reading the assigned materials. when i was a little kid i loved reading. i used to read all day everyday. now i dont even remember the last time i finished a book. a lot of people ask since i work full-time why not go to school part-time or the other way around. i go to school full-time because if i still want to be under my dad's insurance, i have to be a full-time student. i work full-time because at the end of last summer, i had the privilege of becoming a manager at the grocery store i work at. its a great thing for my resume and how many people can say at age 19, working in their first job ever, and in a year would already be in a management position. plus i make a lot of money. i can buy my own stuff now that i couldnt before. i even own my own BMW. stepping down from the position would be a slap to the face to my boss because he took a gamble on me by letting me do this. i admit that i had trouble balancing between two full-time commitments last semester, but im used to it now. instead of falling asleep in most of my classes, im more awake and pay more attention. i even find time to go to the library to study and do my home work. my body is used to it now. its still a little tough not to get 8 straight hours of sleep, but im better than before.

how does this make my identity? well obviously im working really hard at both things. im a hardworker when motivated. i find ways to balance two big parts of my life. im still getting better at prioritizing. i have two personalities between work and outside life. when you see me on the streets and the way i dress hanging out with my friends, you would think im a bad kid with no future. but at work i wear a shirt and tie and have to offer excellent customer service so i have people skills too. and no one there believes that im only 19.

I feel like your doing a lot of this to satisfy other people. You need to start focusing on yourslef and providing for yourself the things you truly want out of life. Don't do things to make certain people happy...do what is going to put a smile on your face. Because thats the best reward in life...and i bet that wont make you as tired..=)

Time management is very important when you're a full-time college student. You can continue doing what you do- going to school full-time AND working full-time, but you should always prioritize your tasks as what's most important to you. I'm a little concerned about your not getting enough rest... Maybe cut back on work hours for more sleep and/or homework. If not, then load up on Starbucks... Okay, maybe not... but you should always eat a big breakfast because that would give you enough energy to get through your classes. It would also help if you kept a planner with you or make a to-do list to keep you in check in case if you get too caught up in work. But aside from that, I'm amazed you've managed to go to school and work full-time and yet, you havent gave up on either one of those. Great job.

WoW, you are a really amazing person. I can’t even imagine how tired I will look like if I sleep less than 8 hours everyday. I actually got a part-time job this semester. It’s my first job and I only work 12 hours a week. However, I still feel hard to balance my school and work. I bet it’s hard of being a full-time worker and full-time student. You must have abundant energies in your body. Good luck to you. Hope you will pass English 96 this time.

I kind of feel your pain I work 32 hours a week and going to school full-time. It's hard I know but one has to do what one has to do in order to get to where you want to be. I sometimes want to fall asleep in class but something that helps is that when I feel I'm about to go to sleep I put my phone in vibration and I set up my alarm to ring every 5 minutes. If you don't want to do that then coffee or redbull work too. Well I hope you do good this semester best luck

sounds like such a busy life style. it must be hard getting by with minimal sleep. u must like what you do in order to be so dedicated to pushing yourself through work even with school in your way. have you tried testing for english 1a? maybe with your skills in english, u can skip english 96. but it does only seem that with a little more focus, u can get by this semester. thanks for sharing your identity.

I think that you should decide to take one of your choices for you life, either school or work. In my country, as people believe, there is a saying, that is, if you chase two rabbits, you won't get either of them. I think it is better to pay 100 percent of your effort on the one thing than when 50 percent on the both things. I wonder what you want to get from the both, shcool and work. If it is money that you want, the time you sacrifice at school could be a good investment for later of your life, when you look for a job. Anyways, it is a tough choice to make.

this is a response to MzAsh's comment. i agree that i do a lot of things to satisfy others. but thats what makes me happy. i feel like i was put here on earth to make people happy. to me, theres nothing better than to see the smile on someones face after you have done something for them. maybe im just too nice but thats my personality. im always the one that goes out of the way for you.
