i was always the average kid in school. i was never the popular one or the loner. i always got average grades. i never really did anything bad. that was until freshman year of high school. it actually really began in 8th grade, i was hanging out with the wrong crowd. i would've never imagined myself doing some of the stuff i did. my record was clean up until then. now i had things like "alleged gang fights" on it. it was all good and all. i had some friends that were pretty cool, but i knew that wasn't the lifestyle i wanted.

i always loved sports, especially football. so at the end of freshmen year i decided to join the school football team. i started training with the team during the summer and met lots of great friends in my teammates. sophmore year started, and so did the season. it was one of the funnest times in my life. our team had not been good at all and we were getting better and better. that year we made the playoffs for the first time in years.  i was a totally different person. i started hanging out with my teammates and started dressing differently. i was happier. the coaches kept us on track by having us workout all year, and that prevented me from being in the streets. the coaches had set up study halls so the team could do our homework. they made sure we stayed out of trouble and weren't afraid to take action if you did something wrong. by senior year, our team went on to win the school's first champiionship in 26 years. that was also the first of three consecutive championships.

my teammates are my brothers. we're all one family and we took care of each other. if it wasnt for football, i would probably in jail or even dead. now im in college full time and work full time. my grades are still about the same, but i can't complain too much. i can't say that im doing eveything good and by the books. im still young so i'm going to do what i'm going to do. it's a whole lot better than not being in school and i will try my best to improve my grades. i tell this story everyone. i wish every person could have coaches like i had who made sure you did well. and may coach b rest in peace.

I am glad that you've found a sport that you like and have made good friendship there. I think having a particular hobby does help people get more focused in life and it keeps your mind happy. Im also happy to hear that you're now focusing on both school and work, it seems you're enjoying them. As far as the problem concerning about grades, I think we all just have to do our best and see what it turns out to be. There is nothing wrong to be "average" as long as you have committed wholeheartedly in the process.

I hope you'll keep the efforts up in football and get lots of As in your studies! Just do your best!

I have always been a bad student for as long as i can remember. I barly pass by mosat of the time. I have played sports my whole life baseball, soccer and basketball. Each team some more then other i considered my family as well. I grfew up with my soccer team. I stoped playing soccer after the season ended in my freshmen year. I have always stayed out of trouble mostly b/c i keep myself busy with other activites. Glad to hear u took the right road and got ur life going in the right track.

I understand how you feel and I think that's what the difference between the teenagers that live in United States and other countries. I grew up totally difference from you, I was still in Vietnam when I am in middle school and high school. I think because of the way that I have to take care of myself and that my family is counting on me. I need to lead myself through a positive way and hang out with friends that would not brought me down and doing bad things. I started to make myself think more about the friends that I hang out with. I kept the friends that I think they will be doing good things and I tried to avoid friends that will lead me through the negative way. By the last year of middle school, already have to know what I am doing and no matter how other people think about me. I have to think about my family first, therefore family had supported me and helped me to become what I am today. I will continue doing positive things and avoid doing or even see my friends do negative things.

I also glad that sport could help you to be yourself. Good things that you did not let other people brought you down. Keep up the good work!
