 Christians and Secular Music

I am a Jazz Musician, but I am also a Christian.  I find that some people feel very strongly about christians playing secular music.  I also have found is that there are many people who have opinions about christians and secular music that differ completely.  To me, there is nothing wrong with christians playing secular music but I was wondering what other people think.

Secular music and sacre music are European terms.  Sacre music is music played in the church and secular music is music not played in the church.

Questions:
Is it wrong for Christians to play in clubs and also play on the music ministry?

Should Christians stop listening to music that in not gospel or christian orientated?

Lets stop with these two questions for now.
Thanks for reading my blog.

Music is God given. It's a heart issue. What is the music glorifying? If it's violence, profanity, disregard for others, then it's being twisted for evil purposes. Love, life, joy, celebration, tears and sorrow to express human pain and struggle - all valid, a creative expression of life, hope, triumph in adversity, etc. Enjoy the talents He has given you, but guard your heart!

Music is very uplifting and in the same breath it can be destructive. Music is the only form on earth that can alter your mood and you can't control it. for example have you ever heard a song you didnt like but knew the words. or you hear an up beat song and you feel happy then turn around and hear a slow song and either feel loved or depressed. Music hits subconsciously and you can't do nothing about it. Why is that dangerous. i shall answer that. but first the reason why alot of christians are touchy about secular music is because one you either serve God or you don't. Now the answer to the question I asked above is Satan was the angel of music in heaven before he was cast out. His insides were made of pipes to glorify God. Making a long story short, if you know why he was cast out you know it was because he himself thought he was God. now if music was satans career and music is one way to spiritually connect to God wouldn't satan use the same form to spritually connect people to him. (remember he feels he is entitled to everything God has) remember what I said before about it being the only force that can take hold of you without your control. That's what makes it dangerous. Music that's not of God is dangerous because it can tap into someone else spirit without them knowing that that spirit on them is not of God. Some gospel music is not necessairly of God. So thats something that you should consult God on. But know music is more than tunes, its spiritual communication. which spirit is your music communicating for. Be careful.

oh i didnt answer your question. well one i'm a christian to. well by reading my first comment i think thats obvious. I feel that the stronger your walk with God then he'll give you discernment. You cant quit cold turkey, its a gradual process. but if you are feeling conflicted in that choice either you know in your heart its wrong and your not ready to accept it or you just choose not to. I listen to gospel jazz. thats when someone who is a jazz artist like your self reads a scripture and their spirit leads the notes so therefore the jazz is christian charged. Only you know if your secualr or not.

the second question...well i hate to tell you but some gospel and christians oriented songs are ment well but not really for God praise but an means to gain fame. Its like the old saying that everyone in the church aint going to heaven. you can do good all your life and that still won't cut it. if he gave you that gift its to serve him. its not talent its a blessing.t hats how i look at it. i listen to some secular. but my spirit is strong enough to let me know when to cut it off. or certain songs to stay away from. this spirit stuff is really bigger and stronger than us you know.
