Hi all!  Another week has gone by, and it's time for the Dream Team blog to touch on another important topic: Gutters!

You all know what gutters are, I hope - they protect your home from rainstorms by guiding the water away from the house, where it would otherwise soak in and cause mold.  But there are many dangers to your gutters that you should know about - and how to solve them.

Problem: Gutters are clogged, water isn't running properly.

Last week, we talked about roof leaks and water damage, and this seems like a perfect place to pick it back up.  Remember that your gutters are usually located at a pretty dangerous spot on your roof - that is, right near the edge.  If anything happens there during a storm and your gutters overflow just a bit, water can and will get into your home.  You would normally think nothing of this, but let's step back and think for a moment.  What carved out the Grand Canyon?  That's right, water.  If water is allowed into your roof, it may get into your walls or siding, warping them, eroding them, and then eventually causing catastrophic damage to the entire structure of your home.

The first sign that your roof might leak is if you see spots and discoloration on your ceilings, standing water, or mold. For instance, if your bathroom floor has a puddle, take a look at your ceiling above the water. Search for water spots and soft spots upwards, where the ceiling might sag. This is one of the most common signs of leakage, and one of the easiest to spot. Dampness on or in a ceiling or wall is also a potential symptom of a roof leak.  If you see missing or broken shingles on your roof, call Dream Team immediately for a repair because those empty spots could allow moisture to collect and puddle, then soak through and become a dangerous leak.
