 Adults with ADHD
As a rookie blogger I'll try to stay on task and not ramble on as I've been known to do and also happens to be a classic characteristic of someone with ADHD. I was diagnosed 4 years ago shortly after realizing my son had inherited it from me. It really opened my eyes as to why I'd lived like I had for many years, blowing good job opportunities, being very impulsive AND compulsive, being unable to manage money, and just wondering why  my life was this never endiing train wreck!!!

I've always wanted to spread the word and let America know that ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper-Active Disorder) is NOT just a childhood disorder. There is an estimated 4-6 million adult americans who have this disorder and don't even know it. Having experienced the negative side of this disorder such as being fired from countless jobs, not being able to manage my finances, and not being the best, most effective parent I can really frustrated the hell out of me. Not knowing why all of this was happening frustrated and confused me even more. After all, when I was growing up I was just a "hyper kid" and it was left at that, it took my son being diagnosed and doing a ton of research on my part to put the pieces together and realize that this disorder had completely ruined my life!!! Shortly after my son started medication and therapy I followed suit and it was literally a life changing experience. No longer did I feel like I was living in a fog, I finally felt like I was in control and could actually manage my life and not just watch it spin out of control like I had done for all those years.

Some may think ADHD is a curse and others think it's something made up by doctors in order to medicate kids so lazy parents can keep them in control. I know it's real and I know the havoc it can wreak on your life if it goes untreated. I'm living proof of the damage it can do but also of the victories that can be acheived when it is treated properly and when you learn how to control it and actually use it to your advantage. For me, ADHD is a strength and a power that has helped me achieve new levels of creativity, agility, and focus that I never knew before.
