 Every child ends up somewhere
So now that I’ve completed my self imposed penance for not taking “The Test” , I have to ask; did anybody notice the quality of their children’s education improving? My guess is no. Somebody that is going to learn is going to do it on their own schedule, in their own time and way.

I can’t remember if I wrote about the best/worst day of my life. It was when my son dropped out. I stopped getting phone calls and letters about my son but also knew he had picked a hard road. They always did his IEP based on; did his behavior effect his ability to learn or did his ability to learn effect his behavior. They would say things to me like, “he’ll end up in jail” or “he’ll be a drug dealer”. I got tired of that. They didn’t know my fair haired child.

I can now proudly say he is a CNA. It took him a while to get past only making money and to enjoy what he did everyday. No he wasn’t a drug dealer. He was working with his back, not his mind. He has met a young woman with a daughter, that’s 2 years younger than his daughter and she is wonderful. He came home with a pocket planner and was amazed how easy it was going to be keeping track of his life. He has also recently made the decision to not fish every chance he gets because it’s not in his budget.

My point is every child that is pushed through and out of the education system still ends up somewhere. We as a society do not want to believe our teachers do this to those children but they are only people. Imagine everyday being with people that you think will never amount to anything because of their circumstance. They have parents that don’t follow through with the lame attempt they made that day teaching their unteachable kids, they have the pressure of getting ready for tests that determine whether or not they are keeping their school from going on a watch list, let’s not forget the maximum amount of work days required by law or not enough pay because they went to college. Remember they are just people.

Yes, some of them truly enjoy what they do and their results show. We all remember our best, favorite or worst teacher. Which one made the biggest impression?

Seems like this is an on-going chip on my shoulder, that as I try to brush it off and it keeps getting smaller but doesn‘t seem to go away.
