| Perceived weakness, IS weakness |
The past few weeks the media (both the mainstreamers and the hatemongers) <--sarcasm alert , have been talking about the war in Afghanistan and how General McCrystal is asking for more troops and President Obama is not in any hurry to make a decision on whether more troops should be sent. There are of course at least two schools of thought on this. Fundamentally I think the question needs to be asked, "Do we even belong there anymore?" and if the answer is no, then let's get the heck out and if the answer is yes, then we have to decide what is the best way to resolve whatever the actual issue is that we're there to resolve.
A couple of years ago Obama was saying that Bush had his head up his ass and we did not belong there to begin with and he did not support the war effort. Now he's in favor of the war effort but not sure to what degree. With this past week's elections in that country and the fact that there is overwhelming evidence that the elections were rigged (apparently ACORN works in Afghanistan too?) there's all the more reason for the US to step back. Then again, there's the issue of the Taliban and their attacks on that country and our commitment to protect all of the world from the evils of this group of blood thirsty terrorists.
There are so many variables and so many options. Wait.. There are not so many options. There are only three. One is to stay the course and two is to get the hell out and three is to decide IF we're going with option one, do we go balls to the walls or do we go piece meal?
No matter what the decision, it needs to be made in a more reasonable length of time than it is now. The fact is that Obama spent several weeks going to Virginia and New Jersey to campaign for Democrat candidates in their gubernatorial elections , when he really should have been working on this AND about a dozen other real problems in the country. What is the U.S. Government doing about the problem of tainted beef? Why don't we have a clean beef Czar?
Here is the problem. The world (not just the U.S.) perceives Barrack Obama as being weak. Now I am sure the hopey changey types are all yelling yes we can yes we can and saying that Obama is the best Commander In Chief that the country has ever seen and that he's putting many hours of study in to this problem before making a decision. But come on folks, if he is worthy of being the Commander in Chief, he needs to listen to his experts and make the decision and stick to it. Because whether or not he is weak, he is perceived world wide as being a dunce and a weakling and the fact is, in this world if you are perceived as weak, you are weak and you can't recover from that perception. He has gone past any chance of changing that.
This puts us in a bad position for the next three years. This will be just like the Clinton Administration. Inability to take action and the bad guys will take full advantage of that.
