| ACORNs, It's Just Nuts! |
I am sure everyone heard about the issues surrounding ACORN over the past few days? No? Hmm, I wonder why? Oh, could it be because the media has done all they can to keep it hidden out of sight. I checked with CBS News on their website today; they had nothing about it, but then I realized being a big news day they had a story on a pink colored poodle that surfs. Priorities. NBC actually had something, but it was by no means headlines. From what I could find, ABC and CNN had nothing.
But here's the story. Last week an independent film maker (a conservative one at that) along with his friend, a 20 year old female; released a video of the two of them, posing as a hooker and a pimp, going in to the Baltimore offices of ACORN (for those unsure what ACORN means, it's ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS FOR REFORM NOW) and posing as a hooker and a pimp asked ACORN for help with defrauding the government at tax time. The good folks were eager to help and suggested ways to set up the business so as to avoid paying taxes, how to hide money etc. And when they suggested that in addition they were going to be bringing in about 13 underage females from El Salvador to work in this sex trade business, they suggested they could claim them as dependents!
I am sure it was all a big misunderstanding. But I saw the video. So did ACORN. ACORN fired the two employees. The information was readily available to the media. Fox News of course had a blast with it. They're about the only ones who bothered with it. It was not big news for the rest of them. Then a day or so later, they released a second video, this one was similar, and it was done in the Washington DC office of ACORN. Again, Fox News showed it, ACORN fired the two employees. ACORN also said that these two film makers when to several other offices but there were no issues with those other offices (Philly, etc).
ACORN immediately had their attorney send a letter to Fox News stating that the tapes were doctored and voice overs were done and that it was illegal to record them without their knowledge and admonished Fox News for showing the videos and warned of impending litigation for having done so or continuing to do so. They also threatened to sue the film makers.
Needless to say, Fox ignored the letters from the attorney (Arthur Z. Schwartz) .
While ACORN alleges these tapes were doctored, and were voice overs and that what is reported on the tape is untrue, not a true depictation of what happened, one wonders then why they fired the employees? That makes no sense. ACORN is the organization who steps up to the plate for the downtrodden (or so they claim) and if a person of color came in off the street and said they were fired without due process, ACORN would use government funds to make sure they were represented and vindicated if indeed they should not have been fired. But yet in this case it was immediate dismissal? Please, who are you kidding?
But wait, there's more. After the weekend (still not much on the news about it from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN et al) yet another tape is released today, this time it's the Brooklyn NY office, and again, this from FOX NEWS
As in their previous undercover stings, filmmaker James O'Keefe, 25, and partner Hannah Giles , 20, who posed as a prostitute, received advice from ACORN workers on how to launder their earnings and avoid detection from law enforcement officials while running a prostitution business.
"You have to find another name for it," an ACORN employee tells the pair seeking a mortgage in the Brooklyn office. "Honesty is not going to get you the house. You can't say what you do for a living."
In the video posted on BigGovernment.com, which was shot on Aug. 4, O'Keefe tells two ACORN workers that Giles — scantily dressed as a prostitute named "Eden" with partially-exposed undergarments — earns up to $10,000 a month "performing tricks" and tries to obtain housing in the purportedly 18-year-old woman's name.
"This is going to be her business, it's all cash," O'Keefe says. "She's gonna have this business in the house with a bunch of girls coming and doing these things, you know, performing tricks and she's gonna give me the money so I can pay the mortgage. That's how we want to work it potentially. But no one has to know where the money is coming from."

"No," an ACORN employee responds as another shakes her head in approval.
The ACORN employees suggest that the purpose of "Eden's" business remain a secret as they seek to obtain financing.
"You know, what goes on in the house, we don't care," an ACORN worker says on the video. "We just help you with the mortgage."
So... Here we are, yet a third incident.
On Friday the US Census severed all ties with ACORN. Oh, isn't that awful? You see, Mr. Obama and company, they wanted ACORN intimately involved in the Census this year, and as you may or may not remember, Senator Judd Gregg, who was chosen as Obama's Commerce Secretary, begged out at the last minute and declined the offer. Reportedly the involvement of ACORN in the Census, or the intervention of the White House with the Census was part of the reason he decided against the cabinet position. So, what is the worst that could happen if ACORN were involved? Well, take for instance the NUMEROUS cases of voter fraud (indictments in 14 states, convictions in 14 states for the 2008 elections) and the most recent 11 indictments after the FBI investigation in Florida. These people are willing to stop at almost nothing to get the job done! They'd undoubtedly be involved in similar behavior doing the Census. Or one might suppose they would anyway, given their reputation.
ACORN gets tons of Federal Funding. There are now calls to severe that funding pending a congressional investigation. I think the feds have little choice but to take this matter seriously. Undoubtedly Barack and Michelle Obama are going to try to influence any investigation or intervention, this is their organization, their friends, their co-workers, their left wing radical organization of community oganizers. ACORN says this whole thing is being done right now because the Health Care Reform Bill is starting to gain strength (where have they been?)
The fact remains, ACORN is a bad organization; there are way too many incidents and much evidence concerning the activities and behaviors of this group. There are many organizations under the umbrella of ACORN, and even if we can take ACORN down, they will come back with the same people, doing the same corruption and collecting more federal funding. This is what the Inspector Generals are supposed to be watching out for! BUT as you might remember a couple of months ago a very well respected Inspector General was fired by President Obama because he was questioning some apparently illegal dealings with the Mayor of Sacremento and Americorps.. Well, you won't have to go very far to find the association of ACORN and Americorps, AND you won't have to look very far to find the association of Michelle Obama and Americorps and ultimately ACORN.
There is a huge amount of corruption. It's all factual. The evidence is clear. None of it has anything to do with race, color or creed.. But undoubtedly it will become a racial issue.
