Have you ever sat down and said "I'm going to read the Bible"? Earlier this week I made that statment and I have actually managed to make progress. Usually when I say it I either never even start or get to the begotting part and can't make it through. You know the part where he begots him and then him begots them and then them begots they and then they begots those and then you forget the line you were on and it all gets jumbled until you get upset and wind up having to start over to make sure you don't miss anything important. Now, once I got through that part it actually turned into smooth sailing reading about Abram becoming Abraham, and his sons doing a lot more begotting and lots of other good stuff and bad stuff (sorry for the short version but I'm sure you get the point). Anyway, I can't really explain why I decided to start reading but it feels good. Even if it's just for my own personal pleasure so that I can tell myself that I read the Bible, it's worth it to me. But as I finished reading Genisis (now realizing it has nothing to do with Phil Collins thank God). I'm preparing myself for what will probably turn into a three month journey into the depths of the Lords' word. I'm looking forward to it and I will continue to post and talk about my adventures with Jesus! .......... No I don't wear black slacks with a white collard shirt and black tie. I just wanted to get your attention if I had lost it (not to say that there's anything wrong with the Mormons, God loves all his children). But to get back to the point the reason I'm writing is to try and get responses from people as to whether they've made this journey themselves or if you haven't and you have any questions you want to ask even if you don't really want an answer. The more we share the more we care..... and only you can prevent forest fires so give a hoot and don't polute. To be serious though we can all learn from each other and I'm hoping I can learn from the Bible to pass some knowledge on to those who may not be able to read It or just don't want to but want to know what It has to say about certain topics.
What to expect from me: What I will be doing is posting my take on each book of the Bible after I finish the book after it (i.e. I'll post my thoughts on Genesis after I finish Exodus). Then I'll carry on talking about other topics that might come up. Inbetween I'll write on things that seem relevant to me or if there are any special requests I'll respond to those as well.
What I hope to get: Any input, questions, comments, concerns, tales of experience, funny jokes, silly tales, diverse thinking, opposite opinions, and anything else you have to give..... except money, I am not a televangelist either.
Since this is the first post and there are no questions I'll make up a few of my own I think you might have.
1. Do you think God wants you to do this? Don't know, I've never been good at picking up on signals. My wife claims she flirted with me for weeks before I started flirting back. But I would like to think so.
2. Are you on some kind of mission for God? Although I dreamed of being a super secret ninja as a kid I've, for the most part, grown out of that unfortunately. All I really want to do is understand what the Bible says and be able to answer any questions someone may have for me.
3. Are you really as sexy as you sound? Yes. Yes I am...... maybe.
And now some questions for you.
1. Do you believe? And yes I'm talking about God and no I'm not talking about the ever changing depiction of E.T. on whatever episode of X-Files you're watching right now.
2. Do you want to talk about your beliefs? And no this isn't going to turn into a heated battle like the ones where you mistakenly bring up the subject at dinner and then everybody goes silent after the yelling, while picking at their food even though they're not hungry but everybody knows the first person to get up is just going to get yelled at so everybody just keeps they're head down in hopes for the phone to ring to break the awkward silence. Just want to make sure everybody get's to voice their concern so everybody gets whatever question they have answered by someone.
3. Do I think I'm sexy? Please see above answer.
Well, now you've had a taste of what is possibly to come and I am off to read Exodus: How Moses got his groove back (or something like that). To all who are out there, peace be with you.
