| One-Eyed Man |
|
A one-eyed man sat all alone,
Up against the window were his right bones;
I never saw a man sitting just like that,
His face was shrouded by a Judenhut hat;
A foul odor surrounded him,
I sniffed but found the air was too thin;
I could not discern its exact meaning,
Rendering him the more intriguing.
The more I looked the more I failed,
Leaving me to no avail
To leave behind the man I faced,
Only to find him without base,
I never tried harder in my life
To see a man in such great strife;
Unlucky was I on that day, without God’s grace,
Because in his reflection I found my face.
