| Why do we knit? |
Why do we knit when we have easy access to ready made sweaters, scarves, gloves, socks, and handbags? It isn’t cheaper and you can’t wear it immediately. I knit because it is creative and exciting to take a skein of yarn or several skeins of yarn and watch it transform into something special. Yes, it does cost more and takes more time but it is very satisfying to make something that is unique and beautiful.
I have read several articles that say knitting is almost like therapy. It is soothing and calming. Sometime when I have a difficult stitch or I make a mistake I don’t think it is all that soothing but most of the time it is definitely rewarding. I love to knit my handmade handbags but I am not fond of the finishing work. (I am still on restriction until I finish three handbags.) I do the finishing work as quickly as possible so I can get on to the next project and start knitting again. It is always exciting to start a new handbag and see what this one will look like.
