 Third Handbag
My husband and I were still vacationing in Palm Springs and I wanted to knit another handbag. I found some soft black wool at the local yarn shop and added a black eyelash yarn to the body of the handbag and a pretty variegated ribbon to the top of the handbag.  I was finished and ready to felt the bag when I noticed the black wool said it was machine washable and would not shrink. Of course I didn’t want to start over and if I tried to use it the handbag would stretch and small items could fall out. So I made a lining out of fabric and since that worked so well I now make a lining for all my handbags.

I started using a plain lining material in a color that complimented the outside of the handbag. Another friend of mine gave me some brocade she didn’t want and I then started lining handbags with beautiful brocades that have wonderful designs. On another shopping trip to the garment district in Los Angeles I found a knitted handbag that had a printed cotton lining. So now I just look for the best color and fabric that fits the finished handbag.

I did learn two things when I knitted that third handbag:
1. Always read the tag before starting a project.
2. Use linings that compliment and give the handbag extra appeal.

What do you learn when you knit a project? Let me know.
