 The First Handbag
The first handbag I knitted was a small round bag made from a beautiful variegated wool yarn.  It only took a few hours to knit and I made a shoulder strap out of the same yarn using a method called I-Cord.  This method uses double point needles and knits up very fast.  After I finished the handbag I felted it and was delighted with the result.   I named it my Copper Sunset Handbag.  All my friends and family thought it was a wonderful handbag.

We were vacationing in Palm Springs, California at the time and one of my friends told me she would market my handbags for me if I wanted to make more.  This was in February and it seemed reasonable at the time.  But when I had finished several handbags in June, the idea was no longer as appealing.  Of course June in Palm Springs means that the temperature is well over 100 degrees.

My eleven year old granddaughter is now the proud owner of that handbag.  She loves it and uses it frequently.  I guess knitted handbags appeal to all ages.

I would be interested to hear about your first knitting project.
