| Second Handbag (Whoops) |
The second handbag I knitted is easily the most elegant handbag yet. We were in Los Angeles making another trip to the garment district when my friend and I found a wonderful shop that has everything you need to make cute knitted handbags. They sell yarn, fabric, handles, and trim. Several of their employees knit and they had made some very special knitted bags. I fell in love with one the handbags and wanted to knit it immediately. As anyone knows the prettier the handbag the more the yarn will cost. One hundred and twenty dollars later I had the makings for a new handbag.
I had beautiful yarn with copper colored bumps and gold metallic threads, a variegated ribbon going from gold to ecru, fuzzy clear crystal yarn, a long cream colored eyelash yarn, and a soft cream colored wool yarn.
I knitted it in stripes so it was really fun to combine yarns and make it look different each time the stripes changed. Of course I ran out of beautiful yarn too soon. Not wanting to spend another hundred dollars and not wanting to rip it all out, I finished the handbag and felted it. It was really long and too short. I did manage to save the whole thing by taking deep tucks in the ends to make it look like a clutch type handbag.
Have you had failures that turn into success stories? Let me know.
