 Color, Color, and More Color
I have already mentioned how much I love to knit in previous blogs and I have not addressed one of my favorite things about knitting and that is color. When I knit a new handmade handbag I find it is really exciting to pick a color of yarn and then add one, two, three, or sometimes even four different shades of the same color yarn or complimentary yarns in a different color. The way the yarn looks when it is rolled into a ball or looped in a skein is often very different from the way it looks when knitted into a handbag.

I recently read a very good article on color called “Color for Knitters, Color Mixing 101” by Beverly Roberts in the 2008 Summer Issue of Interweave Knits Magazine. She discusses such things as the hue, value, and saturation of yarns as well as the mixing of different colors. She also discusses blending and how using swatches will help you choose colors that blend well. The last paragraph said that her favorite dream as a child was to be locked overnight in a candy store and that the adult version would be opening a package to find one skein of all the yarns on the market in all their beautiful colors. I can really relate to that dream.

Do you love color? Let me know.
