Yeah Ben wasn't with the French woman. He just took her child and claimed it as his own.

You make a good point about being able to sell DVDs with a traumatic death of Sawyer, but they would have to make this the big, finale climax. If they even hint at him dying before the next two seasons are over, they're going to screw up audience ratings.
