I cannot even begin to imagine how proud you parents must feel when your little ones do something new, or something special.
I mean, I'm only the god damn English teacher, but twice today I have been close to tears of pride because of my little guys!
Incident one involved a special needs boy in Kindergarden three. He is lovely, a larger than life, happy, cuddly and hyperactive chap. He can't sit still for more than a few seconds, and finds engaging in the teaching and games tough. However he is so loveable, you can't help but warm to him and want him to achieve. Even so, this term so far he has said very little of any relevance apart from copying the occasional word here and there.
So, today, I was bowled over with pride, when I asked the class, 'Where's the cooker?' (a revision of a lesson teaching the preposition 'in' and house vocabulary two weeks earlier) And, as all his classmates sat pondering he comes out with 'In the kitchen.' bold as brass and from nowhere, like it was the most ordinary thing in the world for him to be the first to answer a question.
I was OVER THE MOON!!! So, so proud to be able to give him one of the special big stickers, and to see his grin almost brought a tear to my eye!!
The second incident was less about teaching and English learning, but still fab!
One of my Kindergarden one classes have been very shy since day one. The first lesson we had with them seven weeks ago involved half the class crying, and no one really wanting to be there, and it has been really slow progress to build any sort of rapport with them at all, and get them feeling comfortable enough to want to learn anything at all.
So, imagine my grin when I walked passed their classroom today to a chorus of my name being shouted and then all their little faces appearing at the door and being showered with kisses being blown at me. It was an 'Oh YES!' moment! Finally the ice is broken and this class is as comfortbale with me as the others. Result!!!!
So, I might not have any children of my own yet, but Mon-Fri 8-3.30 I really do feel as proud as any mum when one of 'my' kids does something fab!!
